March through downtown San José against repression of international solidarity activists
San José, CA – On Jan. 25, 75 people rallied in front of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library and then marched through downtown San José and by the federal building. The march and rally was organized by the South Bay Committee Against Political Repression. The rally was one of many that took place across the U.S., in response to the FBI and Grand Jury witch hunt that has been unleashed on anti-war and Palestine solitary activists.
Speakers included Masao Suzuki, of the Nihonmachi Outreach Committee (who has been questioned by the FBI), Fred Hirsch of the South Bay AFL-CIO Labor Council, Charlotte Casey of Code Pink, Carol El-Shaieb of the Arab American Cultural Center, Sharat Lin of the San Jose Peace and Justice Center, who spoke on attacks on immigrants, and Samina Sundas of American Muslim Voice. Emcee Shelby Minister read a statement by jailed lawyer Lynne Stewart. Raging Grannies Action League sang and chanted to begin and end the rally.
