Iran vows response to U.S. sanctions
Iran’s FARS News Agency is reporting, Dec. 31, that Iran is planning a response to U.S. plans for new sanctions against companies and individuals that are allegedly working to develop Iran’s missile capacity.
“Such measures are unilateral, self-centered and illegal and the Islamic Republic of Iran has notified the U.S. administration and they have themselves announced before that Iran's missile issue is not related to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and no action will be able to deprive the Islamic Republic of Iran from its legitimate and legal rights to strengthen its defensive power and national security,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari.
The report also states, “If the new sanctions are imposed, they will be a blatant violation of the nuclear deal signed between Tehran and the world powers in July that would eventually see Washington drop sanctions targeting Iran.”
U.S.-backed regimes in the region, including Israel and Saudi Arabia, have large stockpiles of ballistic missiles.
The U.S. has repeatedly used long-range missiles to carry out attacks in the Middle East.
