National Immigrant Rights Strategy Convention – August 11-13 in Chicago
Chicago, IL – Organizations and activists from across the United States will be coming together here, Aug. 11-13 to lay plans that will build the immigrants’ rights movement. The National Immigrant Rights Strategy Convention was initiated by the Illinois-based March 10 Movement, the organization that led the massive general strike of immigrants here March 10, and then brought more than a half million people onto streets on May 1.
The convention is backed by a broad array of immigrants’ rights, labor and oppressed nationality organizations. Fight Back! newspaper is among the endorsers.
The period ahead is important for the immigrants’ rights movement. Congress is scheduled to leave Washington in October. Any push for legislation allowing for legalization will have to take place before they go. Conversely, it is possible that right-wingers will try to push through racist, anti-immigrant measures in the final days of this Congressional session.
A leaflet that can be used to build the National Immigrant Rights Strategy Convention is available in English and in Spanish below.
