Huge turnout expected at Tucson May Day
Tucson, AZ – The Tucson May Day Coalition has been working very hard in the last two months to build for what is expected to be a return to huge May Day rallies from past historic moments.
The state of Arizona and the city of Tucson is home to many Chicano people, Mexican and Central American immigrants, as well as people from over a dozen Native American nations.
These folks are the front line of the anti-Immigrant policies of the U.S. government, and most recently, the racist, xenophobic rhetoric of Trump and his supporters. In addition to an anti-public education cabinet member, Betsy Devos, Trump has lots of billionaires in his cabinet who have a clear anti-labor agenda. It is for all these reasons and many more that organizers expect a huge response from the popular classes of Tucson to demand: No ban! No wall! Legalization for all!
Marchers gather at El Casino Ballroom at 473 E 26th Street at 8:30 a.m. Monday May 1. The march route goes through downtown to the federal building at 300 Congress Avenue and ends at Armory Park for speakers and music.
