Tallahassee, FL -The night after the election, Nov. 9, 200 Florida State University (FSU) students, faculty and community members assembled on the steps of the Old Florida Capitol to protest against President-elect Donald Trump.

After the protesters rallied, they marched through the streets of downtown Tallahassee cheering and chanting, “Not my president”, and “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA”, and “Black lives matter!” Accompanied by drums and other instruments, they chanted, “Shut it down” in the intersections as they blocked traffic for over an hour.

Students held homemade signs reading, “America was never great” and ”Not one more deportation.”

“We are here to stand against Donald Trump and his racist agenda. Clinton and Obama say we need to give Trump a chance, but we are here to reject that. We are ready to resist Trump in the streets,” said Zachary Schultz, a member of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS).

The protesters marched back to the steps of the Old Capitol where the organizers spoke against Trump’s plans to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border and deport undocumented immigrants.

“Trump winning the election has been a wake up call for so many people,” said Katherine Draken, a member of SDS. “People are beginning to realize that we need to organize outside of the political establishment that put Trump where he is, and build actual organizations that can fight against oppression.”

The FSU chapter of Students for a Democratic Society said they plan to continue the struggle against Trump’s racist, anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim agenda as long as he is president.
