Florida State students call for walkout to protest Trump
Tallahassee, FL – Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) at Florida State University (FSU) is calling for students to walk out of class at noon, Jan. 20, to protest the inauguration of Donald Trump. The students will rally on Landis Green, to be followed by a march to the Florida State Capitol Building.
This protest is part of a National Student Walkout organized by SDS to “disrupt operations on campuses everywhere.” According to the call, “We demand free tuition and equal access to education for Black, Chicano, Latino, and specifically undocumented students. We demand sanctuary campuses everywhere, the preservation of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and an end to deportations.”
“We’re here to stand up for all those who are in danger because of the Trump administration; undocumented people, Muslims, women, everyone Trump has decided to make his enemies. We are calling on students to get organized and ready to fight back against every attack on oppressed people,” said Katherine Draken, an FSU student organizing the walkout and president of SDS.
