Santa Ana, CA – Sixteen people, including members of Jaden Michaca’s family, lawyers with Carillo Law Firm, and members of Community Service Organization Orange County (CSO OC) crowded outside Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) to demand justice for Jaden Michaca on Tuesday, June 23. Michaca was only 15 years old and suffering a mental health crisis when he was killed by police just nine days before.

Maribel Michaca, Jaden's mother, explained how SAPD distorted the incident. Police statements made it sound like they were responding to a call about a family disturbance that resulted in a stabbing. Maribel explained that she called 911 to respond to a mental health crisis, and that in the past she called 911 to have a psychiatric team de-escalate these situations. Additionally, Maribel said her partner was not stabbed but accidentally scratched trying to take away a knife from Jaden during his crisis.

But this time two police officers were sent. When police broke into her apartment Maribel said, “Please do not shoot! Please do not shoot! My son is having a mental health crisis!” At the press conference Maribel explained, “I was standing next to him and they did not care. They just started shooting – one bullet after another bullet. They didn’t even care about my own life being in danger.” Maribel’s hand was shot and her right thumb was immobilized in a brace. She said, “I was not in danger from my son. I was more in danger from the police shooting at me and killing my son.”

Michael Carillo, one of the lawyers representing the family, said they were filing a government claim against the city of Santa Ana and SAPD, accusing the officers of negligence and a failure to de-escalate the situation. The way SAPD responded to Jaden Michaca was similar to other police killings, such as that of Henry Gonzalez Junior and Noe Rodriguez, who were also suffering a mental health crises and then criminalized and killed by police.

Family members held large photos of Michaca, where he was shown cradling his pet cat, embracing family in front of a cake for his birthday, and standing with his mother. Others held CSO OC signs that read, “Justice for Jaden Michaca,” “Release the body camera footage,” “Release the autopsy report” and “Jail killer cops.”

Jasmine Michaca, Jaden’s aunt, said “Jaden was always such a loving kid. I spent most of my childhood growing up with him. Jaden started developing a liking for Pokémon, and every time he would come home, he would show me his collection.”

In the last two years Jaden began experiencing bipolar disorder. His mother pulled him from public school, and he began taking online classes and receiving help. Jasmine shared her last memory of her nephew, saying “I just came back recently from UC Santa Barbara. Spending the weekend together, he was just so excited to see me. He had called me two weeks prior. I remember one day we were sitting in the living room, and he was telling me he didn’t get to finish high school. He wanted to go to college and pursue a career as a mechanic. I told him if he ever needs help, I will be there with him.” She wept and embraced Jaden’s mother.

Maribel Michaca said, “What I’m asking for today is justice for my son. He did not deserve to die the way he did. He was a loving child. He had plans! He had a future!”

The crowd chanted, “Justice for Jaden! Justice for Jaden! Justice for Jaden!”

Santa Ana CA – The afternoon of Saturday, June 19, 25 people, including members of Community Service Organization Orange County (CSO OC) and concerned community members, gathered to demand accountability and transparency after yet another resident was killed by Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) earlier that week.

Chants of “Justice for Jaden Michaca!” and “¡Basta policías asesinos!” could be heard over rush hour traffic at the intersection of the apartment complex where Jaden Michaca was killed.

Michaca was only 15 years old when SAPD officers shot him to death the night of June 14. Early reports from the department offer no details of the officer-involved shooting but justified the officer’s actions by stating that the “suspect” had a knife and was under the influence when they responded to a domestic call. Community members immediately called out SAPD’s statements online and in person, condemning the department for the killing and advocating for stronger community oversight of the department.

David Pulido, a member of CSO OC, opened the event with “We’ve seen enough of these police statements and met enough of their victims to know that we should not trust the police! They criminalize the victim by focusing on drug use and property damage to mark them for death!”

A school counselor who knew Jaden Michaca attended the protest and countered early attempts by police to paint him as a criminal. She stated Michaca “had the biggest heart of any kid I’ve worked with, he was sweet and kind, but he happened to be in a body that looked a little bit older, and that of a Chicano male. I can’t deny that that was a factor in what happened.” Michaca’s death is one of many cases of Chicanos being killed by police across Orange County, including three teenage police shooting victims in the last seven months.

The protesters waved signs that demanded justice for the victim, including others that read “Release the names! Release the tapes!” They demanded the immediate publication of all unedited body camera footage, the full autopsy report, and the names of the officers who killed Michaca.

Attendees marched around the intersection of South Main and West Macarthur Boulevard, chanting “Jail killer cops!” while people driving by honked in support. A white cross decorated with fresh flowers and handwritten messages from the family had been set up near the intersection earlier that week to honor Jaden Michaca’s life.

Family members of Albert Arzola, a 19-year-old killed by Anaheim Police Department (APD) in December 2025, attended to show their support for Jaden Michaca’s family. Albert’s sister Pearl Arzola emphasized, “Jaden Michaca was a young kid, and instead of de-escalating the situation, the cops chose more violence! We need more accountability over Santa Ana PD, a young 15-year-old boy should not die because cops are trigger-happy.”

“I don’t know if you saw that the mayor of Santa Ana, she brushed this shooting off like it was nothing. What the fuck?” yelled CSO OC member Luis Herrera. The community booed and responded “Shame!” He then encouraged the crowd, “We need to unite and organize ourselves to fight for justice, because only through organized struggle can we win community control of the police!”

Abe Quintana of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) brought a historical perspective, stating “We know that there is a long history of racist police killings and violence that targets Chicano communities and immigrants from Mexico and Central and South America. The racism and exploitation we experience exist because they are rooted in the oppression of Aztlan, so we need to fight for our self-determination!”

CSO OC organized the protest, which was also attended by PSL, members of Union Del barrio (UDB), and community members who knew Jaden Michaca. CSO is a grassroots, working-class organization that fights for community control of the police and legalization for all the undocumented. Santa Ana, CA – On Monday, June 15, Community Service Organization Orange County (CSO OC) served a demand letter to the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) and the city of Santa Ana threatening to sue if they do not immediately start producing records of the in-custody death of Freddie DeAngelo Washington.

Despite multiple public records act requests, SAPD has only produced a tiny handful of records, and none in over a year. This is far fewer records than SAPD has released in other cases. These delays give the impression that SAPD is hiding something, because what the public already knows about the brutality of the case is shocking.

Back on January 15, 2025, six SAPD officers broke into Washington’s hotel room and arrested him. As two officers pinned him to bed, one officer punched Washington in the back of the head twice. Police wrestled him to the ground, threatened to tase him, and tied down his arms and legs using a restraint device called “the wrap.” According to the police report, later that night Washington was put in a restraint chair and placed in a cell at Santa Ana Jail.

At least one officer with a prior history of violence can be identified in the arrest footage: Isaac Ibarra, who helped with the arrest and helped prepare the restraint device for Freddie Washington. Ibarra was one of the officers who killed unarmed 31-year-old Noe Rodriguez in 2024, shooting him 11 times and lying about what Rodriguez was doing before the shooting.

In Santa Ana Jail the day after Freddie Washington’s arrest, he fainted and officers placed him on his side. When Washington woke and flailed his legs, police violently pinned him to the tile floor with their knees for almost four minutes. Washington was tied down to a restraint chair, hooded with a spit mask and put back in a cell. Public Information Officer Natalie Garcia said that “at some point, jail staff determined the suspect did not appear to be breathing.” He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

As of Tuesday June 16, SAPD Records Division deleted public messages from the website, but CSO OC members preserved these records beforehand.

Meanwhile, the family of Freddie Washington has been left in the dark. Washington’s sister, Moesha Hightower, described him as “a country boy from Aitken, South Carolina who loved to cook, to travel, and to take care of his daughter.” In fact, SAPD incorrectly stated Washington was from Ventura County when he was in California to fight for custody of his daughter.

Washington’s mother, Beatrice Hightower, said he was “a family man and an honest child who helped Beatrice and his sisters.” She misses him bitterly and said she had to bury Washington on his birthday. Washington’s family demands justice for his death and for the officers involved to be held accountable.

Six years since the racist killing of George Floyd by killer cop Derek Chauvin, the brutality of Washington’s arrest and death by SAPD speaks for itself. This was another racist killing, and SAPD cannot be trusted to carry out investigations into their own officers.

This is why CSO OC fights for community control of the police. The public has a basic right to decide on police matters where they live, including how in-custody deaths are investigated and how police are held accountable for acts of brutality.

Santa Ana, CA – The Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) shot and killed an unnamed 16-year-old inside his own apartment on Sunday, June 14. SAPD released multiple statements to justify the killing hours before caution tape came down or police had even left the scene. This killing happened just four and a half months after the last teenager, 18-year-old Chicano Victor Lopez, was killed by SAPD.

On Monday, June 15, Community Service Organization Orange County (CSO OC) members investigated the apartment complex to learn more about the victim.

Police said they were called about a family disturbance. Reports said the 53-year-old boyfriend of the “suspect’s” mother reported that the 16-year-old had stabbed him with a knife, was “under the influence” and was “vandalizing property.” When they arrived, police said they told the teenager to drop the knife and when he refused, they shot him.

But the public has a right to be skeptical. Police often use these reports to justify their killings, calling their victims suspects, emphasizing how dangerous they are, and focusing on drug use and property damage to mark people for death. The public never gets the bigger picture behind the story. And police never ask if they could solve the problem without violence.

CSO OC members went door to door to learn what happened from neighbors and to connect with the impacted family. Multiple neighbors said they heard police breaking down a door. One said she heard between ten and 20 gunshots, and a mother crying out, “You killed my baby!” CSO OC met members of the family weeping just feet away from their taped-off complex. These details start to paint a different picture from the story the police project in their social media and local news outlets.

CSO OC will be having a protest on behalf of the family and all victims of police crimes in Santa Ana on Friday, June 19 at 6 p.m. at the intersection of W McArthur Boulevard and S Main Street.

These victims include people like 18-year-old Victor Lopez, who just four months earlier was chased by SAPD into a parking structure. But what SAPD failed to mention was that it was his own apartment complex, or that they shot Lopez three times in the back while he was attempting to surrender. They do not mention that Lopez was driving with his fiancé and one-year-old son. Instead, they focus on a firearm he dropped while exiting the vehicle, which is not a death sentence, and the firearm was not used. SAPD claims it does not need to release more body camera footage to the public but faces yet another civil rights lawsuit for the police killing.

All of this is why CSO OC fights for community control of the police. We have a basic right to decide on all police matters where we live. That includes the ability to have independent and transparent investigations into these killings, and the ability to hold police accountable for killing our children. Santa Ana, CA – 28 people, including residents of Coach Royal Mobile Home Park, families impacted by police killings, and members of Community Service Organization Orange County (CSO OC), flooded Santa Ana City Council on Tuesday, May 19.

Outside the chamber, CSO OC’s Immigration Committee rallied to demand Kingsley Corporation get out of Coach Royal Mobile Home Park.

Inside the chamber, CSO’s Police Accountability Committee delivered their petition demanding that Santa Ana Police Department Officers Luis Casillas and Isaac Ibarra be fired for killing Noe Rodriguez. May 19 was the anniversary of Rodriguez’s birthday.

Coach Royal resident Karla Alvarado said, “We had our rent stabilization meeting almost a month ago, and we are asking for the video of that event, and the city is trying to deny us access to it!” At that meeting, Kingsley denied residents access to Spanish interpretation or designated witnesses, and they barred observers from entering the meeting. But protests from residents forced city staff to “realize” that residents were entitled to these rights.

“¡Fuera Kingsley! ¡Fuera Kingsley!” chants were heard inside the chamber as people outside rallied. Santa Ana city staff tried drowning them out by raising the volume of the outdoor TV, but these backfired and caused residents to shout even louder.

Inside the chamber, Mayor Valerie Amezcua tried to silence the people, reading the city attorney’s statement which said there was nothing the city could do about Kingsley Corporation. Boos from the audience interrupted her. Threatening to stop the meeting, Amezcua slandered Coach Royal residents, claiming without evidence that they “had turned to making threats and acting physically aggressive with our city staff.”

Then the city council voted to limit public comment to one minute. Boos filled the chamber as Councilmembers Valerie Amezcua, Jessie Lopez, Phil Bacerra and Thai Viet Phan voted to silence the public.

CSO OC member Matthew Compton said, “You guys are really fucking scared of the Coach Royal people, and it’s really fucking shameful that you decided to cut it to one minute. Including you, Jessie! The Arzolas are sitting right there and they saw your bullshit. They canvassed for you and they supported you.”

The family of Albert Arzola, who was killed by Anaheim PD officer Nathan Garcia on December 1, 2025, has supported Lopez’s State Assembly run for weeks, because her opponent, Santa Ana Councilmember David Penaloza, is a loyal servant of the police.

Erika Armenta, the widow of Noe Rodriguez, approached the podium. On either side of her, CSO OC members held signs showing hundreds of petition signatures. As of May 21st, the petition stood at 638 signatures. It can be signed here.

Armenta said, “It has now been 504 days since December 1, 2024, since Officers Luis Casillas and Isaac Ibarra took the life of my daughters' father, Noe Rodriguez, in a hail of bullets; yet you have done nothing to fire them – you only seek excuses. The mayor, in particular, takes it upon herself to protect them, publicly offering her support to these so-called ‘peace officers’ without regard for the pain this causes us, those of us who have lost a loved one.”

Armenta held her phone to the microphone and shared a recording of her daughter’s voice. Her daughter said, “I am sad because today, it is my father’s birthday and I cannot hug him. I am frustrated because they stole his life, and the ones who did this continue to walk free.” Armenta held up a painting as the recording continued, “I made this drawing to remember his beautiful memory.”

As Armenta spoke, Councilmember Thai Viet Phan stared into space and ate yogurt.

David Pulido, a CSO OC member, said, “We are here today to present the early results of our petition for Justice for Noe Rodriguez.” Pulido continued, saying “Today would have been his birthday! And you robbed that time from him!” As the city cut his microphone, Pulido demanded Police Chief Robert Rodriguez fire the killer cops and led chants of “Luis Casillas? Lock him up! Isaac Ibarra? Lock him up!” Chants filled the chamber and the audience drowned out the mayor, forcing her to wait.

Guadalupe Barragan, a Coach Royal resident who has been fighting against Kingsley’s abuse for years, countered the mayor’s slanderous statement about Coach Royal residents. She pointed directly at Amezcua and said, “Hopefully you have proof of everything you just said, making accusations of my family! You know me, that we are working-class people. Yes, we are angry! Because Kingsley has been stealing our homes!”

CSO OC member Diana Terreros took the mic, saying, “It’s a shame that you are trying to slander the Coach Royal residents and saying that they’re threatening city staff. We have a video that shows that during their hearing, city staff was trying to put hands on them and trying to push out their supporters.” Terreros said, “You guys keep telling them to sue Kingsley, to submit their petitions, and do this and that on an individual basis. What we’re asking is for this to be treated as the systemic issue that it is. Everywhere that Kingsley is across the country, these issues are happening. It will not be solved by an individual lawsuit. Shame on you guys for doing absolutely nothing!”

As the public was leaving, city staff shamefully served Karla Alvarado a restraining order filed by a city staff employee named Maricela Marquez, who was present at the April 29 Rent Stabilization Division meeting. Alvarado will appear in court on May 29.

These attacks will not stop CSO OC from fighting alongside the people. We demand Kingsley out of Santa Ana! We demand killer cops Luis Casillas and Isaac Ibarra be fired!

Santa Ana, CA – En la mañana del 29 de abril, gritos de “¡Fuera Kingsley!” resonaron afuera de la sala donde se reunía la División de Estabilización de Alquileres (RSD, por sus siglas en inglés). Los residentes del parque de casas móviles Coach Royal, junto con miembros de la Organización de Servicio Comunitario del Condado de Orange (CSO OC), tuvieron una conferencia de prensa antes de una audiencia con la RSD. Desde hace años, los residentes han sufrido abusos y acoso por parte de Kingsley Management Corporation, los propietarios del parque.

Kingsley ha tomado represalias, mediante desalojos injustos, contra aquellos residentes que se alzan en contra de su abuso de poder. La RSD tenía programado escuchar 18 peticiones relacionadas con estos desalojos injustos.

“¡Si gana Kingsley, pierden los inmigrantes!”, gritó Karla Alvarado, antes de dar inicio al evento con un emotivo testimonio. “He sido residente durante 28 años y fui desalojada; no por mala conducta ni por deber renta, sino porque quieren demostrarnos que se nos castiga por alzar la voz”.

Alvarado exigió justicia para todos los residentes que han sido desalojados mediante tácticas coercitivas y engañosas, declarando, “¡Queremos justicia en nuestra ciudad; nuestra gente está sufriendo! Kingsley les entrega a los residentes que hablan español documentos en inglés y, además, los presiona para que firmen bajo coacción. ¡Esto tiene que parar!”

Guadalupe Barragán, residente y activista de larga trayectoria en la defensa de los derechos de los inquilinos, tomó el micrófono para expresar sus demandas. “Lo que queremos hacer esta mañana es pedirles, nuevamente, pedirles al gobierno de la ciudad que nos ayuden, ya que hemos sido acosados, amenazados, abusados, robados, inclusive habido muertes en el parque de Kingsley. ¡Queremos que los funcionarios de la ciudad de Santa Ana nos ayuden a sacar a la corporación Kingsley!”.

El residente Julián Orozco compartió su experiencia con las tácticas de intimidación de Kingsley: “Se suponía que iba a recibir el título de mi casa después de cumplir el contrato y enviarles un giro postal de $300. Una semana después me dijeron que había sido un error e intentaron hacer un contrato adicional por otros tres o cuatro años. Querían que lo firmara para que pagara más. Rob McDonald (personal de Kingsley) se presentó en mi casa queriendo intimidarme para que firmara los papeles”.

Un miembro de CSO OC cerró la conferencia de prensa exigiendo la salida de Kingsley y solicitando la ayuda de los funcionarios gubernamentales para detener este abuso sistemático. Exigió justicia para Maria Pedraza, una ex residente de Coach Royal que se quitó la vida a consecuencia de los abusos sufridos a manos de Kingsley.

Santa Ana, CA – On May 1, nearly 300 people packed into Sasscer Park for International Workers’ Day. The rally and march, which also commemorated the 20th anniversary of the immigrant mega marches, was organized by the Orange County May Day Coalition. The energy in the crowd grew as the emcee of the rally, Abe Quintana from Community Service Organization Orange County (CSO OC) led chants of “ICE out of Santa Ana! ICE out of OC!”

Michelle Ceballos from UAW started by emphasizing “the wealthy have extracted more and more profit from us, kept our wages low, raised prices, and bought out our politicians! It doesn’t have to be this way! May Day reminds us that when we fight, we win!”

Speaking on the immigrant mega marches 20 years ago Ceballos added, “In 2006, on a Day Without an Immigrant, millions hit the streets to defeat an anti-immigrant law, and won. In January, hundreds of thousands across the U.S. shut it down, to get ICE to back off. Today, people joined the call to shut it down again, to keep building momentum for a mass movement!”

Erika Armenta, the wife of Noe Rodriguez, a man who was killed by Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) is also a member of CSO OC. Armenta told the crowd, “We need community control of the police to ensure that officers who have taken the lives of our loved ones face consequences-specifically, that they be fired and subsequently imprisoned. They must be held accountable for the lives they have unjustly snatched away!”

Armenta also spoke of CSO OC’s fight for immigrant rights, “Our Immigration Committee works with the working-class immigrants of the Coach Royal mobile home park who are fighting unjust evictions and abuse from Kingsley Management Corporation.”

Hussein Imreish from the Palestinian Youth Movement said,“ For the past two years we have seen how essential the labor movement is for Palestine. Through our campaigns such as Mask of Maersk and the Peoples Arms Embargo we have connected with principled and dedicated workers who reject the imperialist forces inflicting violence and exploiting our people.”

Diana Terreros from Freedom Road Socialist Organization Orange County (FRSO OC) kicked off her speech by saying, “Immigrants are super exploited to increase the profits of the billionaires.” Terreros spoke about the local example of Kingsley. “They do illegal terrible things to the residents all for profit and then count on the residents being too afraid to fight back due to their status. They have even threatened to call ICE on them! Shame!” Terreros finished with a call to action by saying, “We are an organization of fighters working shoulder to shoulder with the working class and have a real strategy to build a united front against these capitalists and you should join us in this fight!”

Gaby Hernandez from Chicanos Unidos stated, “We have worked heavily and led the campaign against gang injunctions. Gang injunctions create prisons in our communities without walls.” Hernandez added that “We started fighting against injunctions in 2006 and just a few months ago we were able to shut down injunctions here in Orange County!”

At the height of the rally, the large crowd started marching. The protesters stopped traffic, fully taking over the road, chanting “ICE out of OC!”, “Donald Trump, let’s be clear! Immigrants are welcome here!” and “Jail killer cops!” throughout downtown as the crowd filled the busy streets.

The crowd held up signs saying “No Ice! Stop the deportations,” “Workers Forever, CEOs never” and “Fight for workers' and immigrants’ rights” while passing cars gave honks of support.

While marching, David Pulido, a member of FRSO OC and a chant leader for the march, brought attention to the parking lot where 73-year-old Miguel Chavez was brutally arrested by the SAPD in 2022. “They shot him with less-lethal rounds and sicced a K-9 dog at him! He later died from his wounds!” This started powerful chants of “Justice for Miguel Chavez!” and “Jail killer cops!”

Santa Ana, CA – On the morning of April 29, chants of “Fuera Kingsley!” rang outside the room where the Rent Stabilization Division (RSD) was meeting. Coach Royal mobile home park residents, alongside members from Community Service Organization Orange County (CSO OC), held a press conference before a hearing with the RSD. The residents have been facing abuse and harassment from Kingsley Management Corporation, the owners of the park, for years.

Kingsley has retaliated against residents who stand up against their abuse of power with unjust evictions. The RSD was scheduled to hear 18 petitions regarding these unjust evictions.

“If Kingsley wins, immigrants lose!” chanted Karla Alvarado, before kicking off the event with an emotional testimony. “I have been a resident for 28 years and I was evicted, not for misbehaving or owing rent, but because they wanted to show us we get punished for speaking up.”

Alvarado demanded justice for all residents who have been evicted through coercive and deceitful tactics, stating, “We want justice in our city, our people are hurting! Kingsley is giving the Spanish-speaking residents documents in English and also pressures them to sign under duress. This needs to stop!”

Guadalupe Barragan, longtime tenant rights activist and resident, got on the mic to state her demands. “What we are hoping to accomplish here today is to ask once again for city officials to help us, as we have been harassed, threatened, abused, robbed, and caused death! We want Santa Ana city officials to help us get Kingsley corporation out!”

Resident Julian Orozco shared his experience with Kingsley intimidation tactics: “I was supposed to get the title to my home after I had completed the contract and sent them a $300 money order. A week later they told me it had been a mistake and tried to do an additional contract for another three or four years. They tried to get me to sign it so that I would pay more. Rob McDonald [Kingsley staff], showed up at my house trying to intimidate me to sign the papers.”

A CSO OC member closed out the press conference demanding Kingsley get out and for help from government officials to stop this systemic abuse. He demanded justice for Maria Pedraza, a former Coach Royal resident who took her life due to the abuse at the hands of Kingsley.

As residents entered the building to begin the hearing, CSO OC members continued to chant, “Kingsley out! If Kingsley wins, the people lose!”

Once inside, Kingsley’s lawyer Ariel Badell motioned to have resident supporters removed from the chambers, including members from CSO OC, CHISPA, Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (C.L.U.E.) and Tenants United Anaheim (TUA). Two city officials sided with Kingsley. After pushback from supporters citing the Rent Stabilization Ordinance , it was determined that witnesses were lawfully allowed to be present within the chamber and remained seated.

As this situation unfolded, Department of Homeland Security vehicles arrived just outside the building’s entrance. It is unknown who made the call, but residents and supporters believed it was used as an intimidation tactic, as many of the residents are immigrants.

As the hearing began, petitioners were not provided interpretation services despite many of the residents being monolingual Spanish speakers. Supporters present requested the city officials to provide interpretation services. Kingsley’s law team refused to provide interpretation services for their team, as Badell stated that they are “legally not obligated to provide interpretation services.” Supporters continued to advocate for the petitioners and demanded they receive interpretation services until city officials eventually accepted.

Later, as a city council member and reporter attempted to observe the hearing, Badell’s team attempted to remove the official and media. She threatened to sue the city for its involvement and claimed the hearing was “turning into a circus.” After reviewing the policies and procedures of the petition hearing, city officials ruled that the reporter and the elected city official were indeed allowed to be present at the hearing.

Overall, Santa Ana city officials initially allowed the Kingsley Management Corporation team to attempt to prevent the petitioners from exercising their rights within the hearing, such as access to interpretation services, allowing designated witnesses, and allowing for observers to enter the hearing room.

The city of Santa Ana remains complacent to Kingsley Management Corporation’s exploitative practices of steamrolling Coach Royal residents’ hearings and settlement negotiations. Only eight out of the 18 petitions were heard. The Coach Royal residents will receive the verdict of their hearings within 30 days.

Diana Terreros, de CSO OC, recordó al consejo que los residentes de Coach Royal son, en su mayoría, inmigrantes de clase trabajadora quienes sus hogares constituyen su refugio durante la administración Trump. Terreros declaró: “Las acciones de Kingsley van en contra del espíritu de toda la ordenanza de ciudad santuario. Están explotando el miedo de los inmigrantes en Santa Ana. Santa Ana, CA – On Tuesday, April 21, residents of Coach Royal mobile home park demanded Kingsley Management Corporation get out of their park. Community Service Organization Orange County (CSO OC) joined them to demand the city council intervene against years of harassment, unjust evictions, home theft, and intimidation by the corporation. The abuse resulted in the suicide of resident Maria Pedraza, whose home was in the process of being taken after years of sacrificing to purchase it.

Karla Alvarado, one of the residents whose home was stolen, stated: “The city of Santa Ana has already met with 45 residents who can testify to this. 45 residents and counting. We have spoken to people across multiple parks. The stories are consistent, the tactics are consistent, and the outcomes as well. That is the definition of a systemic issue.”

Lupe Barragan, a resident and organizer, looked at and pointed directly at each council member as she spoke. “You need to respond! Phil Bacerra, you tried to intimidate us when we came to your office. You, Jonathan Hernandez, we need you to respond to us too. You came to support us and we need more of that. City manager, we need your help. Valerie Amezcua, I know my presence doesn’t please you, but you told us you were going to get out the big guns. We are waiting for you!” As she walked away, Mayor Amezcua laughed at her. Barragan turned around, pointed at Amezcua and scolded her for being disrespectful.

Sylvia Ayala, another resident, told the council, “I’ve lived here for 40 years and I’ve never gotten any help from you. Because you don’t care about the people; you only look out for yourselves. You work, but we have to work more than you. The humiliation that people with money have done to us is not fair.”

While the residents spoke, CSO OC and residents unfurled a banner reading “Kingsley fuera!” The camera began frequently changing angles to avoid showing the banner on screen. At one point, four Santa Ana Police Officers approached the organizers and told them they must move to the back if they are going to hold a banner, despite nobody complaining about an obstructed view.

When Rain Mendoza of CSO OC went up to make public comment, she first held up the banner and told the council to look at it and show it on camera.

Mendoza responded to the council’s frequent response that they cannot do anything because the park is private property, stating, “You sued El Centro Cultural de Mexico, a pillar in this community, so you can use your cops to toss homeless people’s belongings in the trash and push them out of a place where they were allowed to stay by the private property owners. So, you can do all that and use the courts, the police, and all your resources to terrorize a very vulnerable community, but you can’t lift a finger when there is a company that operates in Santa Ana that acts like thugs? Shame on you!”

Diana Terreros of CSO OC reminded the council that the residents of Coach Royal are mainly working-class immigrants whose homes are their refuge during the Trump administration. Terreros stated, “Kingsley’s actions go against the spirit of the entire sanctuary city ordinance. They are exploiting the fear of the immigrant population in Santa Ana. They are hoping the fear will be enough to force the residents to keep their heads down and their mouths shut. They are exploiting this community and their fear to increase their profits by stealing their homes. This is a multi-million dollar corporation from Utah. Why are we allowing them to exploit Santa Ana like this?”

Another member of CSO OC summarized the hundreds of thousands of dollars that groups representing mobile home park owners have donated against the campaign for the Rent Stabilization and Just Cause Eviction Ordinance that was passed in October of 2021. They have also donated to council member’s campaigns. He asked council members, “Is this what’s influencing your frequent responses that there is nothing you can do to enforce what you know is unjust and illegal acts by Kingsley against the Coach Royal residents?”

Santa Ana, CA – The afternoon of April 8, roughly 60 residents from across Orange County chanted “Money for jobs and education, not for war and occupation!” They gathered to protest and demand an end to yet another war in the Middle East. The U.S. and its proxy Israel have been carrying out attacks against Iran for over a month, causing civilian deaths and a global economic crisis. Trump issued a series of threats over Easter weekend, including promising the “death of an entire civilization” and destruction of civilian infrastructure if Iran did not open the Strait of Hormuz by April 7. He gave in just hours before the supposed deadline.

Rain Mendoza of Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) told the crowd, “The ceasefire that has been reached between the U.S. and Iran is being painted a victory for the U.S. when in fact it could not be further from the truth! Trump threw a tantrum and gave an ultimatum and when he wasn’t getting his way, he back-peddled.”

A Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) member stated, “The ceasefire declared between the U.S. and Iran is an illusion of peace, used to signal to investors calm markets and to protect their profits, not to end the attacks and the displacement of our people across the region. Less than 12 hours later, the machinery of war was back with full scale escalation!” She condemned Israel’s missile strikes across Lebanon that caused over 500 civilian deaths and injuries in less than ten minutes earlier that day.

“As long as I have been alive, we have always been at war in the Middle East, in a war for oil and resources. We need to stop the needless violence and bring peace to the region by getting out of there!” said a member of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

Diana Terreros of FRSO stated “The U.S. has been in a decline for a long time while the socialist countries and the oppressed peoples of the world are winning. The U.S. billionaires feel the power of the resisting forces and Trump is lashing out!”

Terreros added, “Chicanos have a long history of opposing war because we understand that we share an enemy with the oppressed people of the world. The U.S. also oppresses us right here at home. We've experienced lynchings, land theft, police killings, deportations all at the hands of the U.S. government.”

A member of Irvine Muslim Activists (IMA) stated, “We want our tax dollars to stay home and provide education, to take care of the people; why are we going to go ahead and fight a war for Israel?” Trump and U.S. imperialists are demanding more funding for war, including $1.5 trillion in defense spending next year and an extra $200 billion for the current conflict. This comes as the working class is already facing increased gas prices and future increases to the cost of everyday needs.

The attendees, including refugees of previous U.S. wars, rallied and marched at the intersection of Bristol and 1st Street while waving signs that read “No war with Iran!” and chanting “No boots on the ground, no bombs in the air! U.S. out of everywhere!” The busy intersection was travelled by cars honking and people shouting in support.

The protest was assembled by FRSO with the support of PYM, DSA, IMA, and other local organizations.

Mendoza closed the event by inviting people to join FRSO, stating, “We the Freedom Road Socialist Organization are committed to socialist revolution through building a political party and organizing shoulder to shoulder alongside the masses fighting for police accountability, anti-war, labor rights and more!” For those interested in joining, visit frso.org.

Santa Ana, CA – El sábado 21 de marzo, los residentes del parque de casas móviles Coach Royal protestaron en la entrada del parque. La protesta comenzó con fuerza, con residentes y miembros de la Organización de Servicio Comunitario Orange County (CSO OC) manifestándose frente a la entrada de Coach Royal. Trabajó toda su vida para ser dueña de esa casa. Era su orgullo y su alegría. Compró esa vivienda con el fruto de todo nuestro trabajo”.

No pasé la Navidad ni el Año Nuevo con mi madre porque ella estaba trabajando. Desearía haber tenido eso. “No es justo que hagan esto aquí, ni en ningún otro lugar del país. Esto está ocurriendo en todas partes, pero tiene que parar y tiene que cambiar. Así es como suceden las cosas en este condado: nos movilizamos, actuamos, nos unimos, nos convertimos en un solo movimiento y, entonces, las cosas cambian”, concluyó Pedraza.

Victor Fuentes es otro residente de Coach Royal que enfrenta el desalojo. Se quitó el sombrero para el sol antes de hablar, revelando una gran cicatriz con puntos de sutura que le recorría todo el cuero cabelludo. “Todos estamos aquí para poner fin a las represalias, la represión y el acoso. Mi familia y yo estamos desalojados ya. Todos hacemos cosas de las que nos arrepentimos y, para desestresarme, comencé a beber. Tuve una gran caída y no recomiendo usar la bebida para ahogar los pensamientos y las preocupaciones. Soy el proveedor de mi familia y ahorita no puedo mantener un techo sobre mi familia.”

Fuentes continuó: “Vine a dar este testimonio porque ya basta. Ya basta de que nos pisen el cuello. Están tratando de callarnos. Esto debe parar. ¿Qué más tenemos que perder? Para todos los que estamos aquí, les costó mucho tener sus casas. Nos están robando nuestras casas descaradamente. No es justo. Exigimos justicia. ¡Tenemos que luchar porque si solo uno de nosotros se niega a luchar, ellos seguirán pisoteándonos!

Los manifestantes estallaron en cánticos: “¡Detengan los desalojos! ¡Detengan el acoso! ¡Detengan las amenazas!”.

La última oradora fue Karla García, quien fue desalojada de su hogar por ayudar a otros residentes de Coach Royal a luchar por los títulos de propiedad de sus casas. “Intenté ayudar a otros residentes y fui castigada por eso. La corporación volvió a presentarse en mi casa y me advirtió que, si seguía ayudando a los demás, terminaría en la calle. Comenzaron a acosarme, intimidarme y amenazarme. Fui atacada día tras día hasta que me arrebataron todo”.

La protesta concluyó con Guadalupe Barragán recorriendo los vecindarios de Coach Royal con un megáfono, instando a los residentes a levantarse y luchar. Más tarde esa misma noche, se tuvo una reunión entre los residentes y los miembros de CSO para trazar la estrategia de los próximos pasos en la lucha por la justicia para los habitantes de Coach Royal.

Santa Ana, CA – La tensión fue palpable el martes 17 de marzo, cuando residentes de Santa Ana, junto con la Organización de Servicios Comunitarios del Condado de Orange (CSO OC), asistieron a la sesión del Concejo Municipal. Exigieron que los policías asesinos Luis Casillas e Isaac Ibarra fueran despedidos del Departamento de Policía de Santa Ana (SAPD).

El 1 de diciembre de 2024, Noe Rodríguez fue asesinado por la Policía de Santa Ana. Jocelyn Pacheco, de CSO OC, declaró: “Noe Rodríguez estaba desarmado y atravesando una crisis de salud mental. Fue entonces cuando los agentes del SAPD, Luis Casillas e Isaac Ibarra, le dispararon 29 veces. Las imágenes de las cámaras corporales muestran que abrieron fuego apenas 30 segundos después de la llegada de los agentes”.

Hacia el final de la intervención de Pacheco, le cortaron el micrófono, a pesar de que solo se había pasado por 17 segundos del tiempo asignado. Los asistentes a la reunión gritaron: “¡Déjenla hablar!” y “¡Qué vergüenza!”.

Matthew Compton relató un incidente ocurrido con el agente Ibarra el 18 de febrero, afirmando: “Miembros de CSO, junto con la familia de Noe Rodríguez, se encontraban fuera del Departamento de Policía de Santa Ana grabando videos. Isaac Ibarra salió deliberadamente del departamento, justo hacia donde estábamos parados, en un intento de intimidarnos”.

Compton continuó: “Isaac nos dio un codazo tanto a mí como a otro miembro de CSO; más tarde me golpeó con el hombro y lanzó un golpe falso a otro miembro de CSO. Isaac es una persona sumamente inestable mentalmente y no se le debería permitir formar parte de la fuerza policial, y mucho menos portar armas letales”.

En respuesta a otros comentarios que expresaban inquietudes sobre el comportamiento del agente Ibarra, la alcaldesa Valerie Amezcua—quien recibe fondos de campaña de la Asociación de Agentes de Policía de Santa Ana—declaró lo siguiente: “Le pedí a mi esposo que viera ese video con el agente Ibarra, y sentí mucha pena por él”. Y continuó: “Creo que se comportó de una manera que me hizo exclamar: ‘¡Vaya!’. Es una situación difícil; él simplemente iba caminando hacia su auto”.

Al finalizar la sesión, algunos concejales—como Jonathan Hernández—mostraron su apoyo al despido de Luis Casillas e Isaac Ibarra. Otros mostraron su desdén hacia los residentes de Santa Ana.

La familia de Noe Rodríguez, junto con CSO OC y residentes de Santa Ana, llevan más de un año luchando para obtener justicia para Noe Rodríguez. Los miembros de CSO declararon que no se detendrán hasta que Luis Casillas e Isaac Ibarra sean despedidos y encarcelados por sus crímenes.

Santa Ana, CA – El 26 de febrero, 20 miembros de la comunidad marcharon a lo largo de Civic Center Drive para confrontar al Departamento de Policía de Santa Ana (SAPD). Cantos como “¡Cárcel para los policías asesinos!” y ”¡La migra, la policía: la misma porquería!” resonaron por todo el vecindario, mientras los residentes hacían sonar sus bocinas en señal de solidaridad. Santa Ana, CA — El sábado 7 de marzo, cerca de 50 miembros de la comunidad se congregaron en el parque El Salvador para el Día Internacional de la Mujer. A pesar de las intensas ráfagas de los vientos de Santa Ana, los participantes mantuvieron el ánimo en alto. Condenaron los numerosos ataques perpetrados contra las mujeres y las personas LGBTQ por parte de la administración Trump.

Rain Mendoza, del comité de inmigración de CSO OC, inició los discursos y habló sobre el impacto del terror de ICE, dijo: “Un ejemplo de esto son las muchas mujeres que han sufrido abortos espontáneos en los centros de detención; mujeres que fueron agredidas sexualmente por personas que se hicieron pasar por agentes de ICE, así como la violación de una detenida nicaragüense en el Centro de Procesamiento de ICE en el sur de Luisiana”.

Rachel Pozos, cofundadora de AlianzaTransLatinx, habló sobre su experiencia viviendo en el Condado de Orange como mujer trans e inmigrante durante los últimos 21 años. “No siempre he sido vista por la sociedad con los ojos de dignidad que merezco. Santa Ana, CA – On Saturday, March 21, Coach Royal Mobile Home residents protested at the entrance of the mobile home park. The protest was in response to yearslong abuse at the hands of the park managers, eviction, and theft of mobile homes by Kingsley Corporation. There was also a recent suicide of resident Maria Pedraza due to the abuse. The Coach Royal residents are majority working-class immigrants.

The protest started strong with residents and supporters from Community Service Organization Orange County (CSO OC) protesting in front of the Coach Royal entrance. The protesters were chanting and holding signs, making themselves visible to the residents entering and exiting the park.

“Kingsley kills!” “Hands off our homes!” and “Justice for Maria Pedraza!” shouted the protesters.

Luis Pedraza, son of the late Maria Pedraza, spoke first, “My mom committed suicide on February 20, 2026, because of the abuse that she was sustaining from Coach Royal mobile home park that is owned and managed by Kingsley corporation. She worked her whole life to own that home. That was her pride and joy. She bought that home with all of our work.”

The protesters and passersby leaned in as Pedraza recounted stories of his late mother, “We lived in all kinds of states: in a single room, in a tiny garage. I didn’t have Christmas or New Years with my mom because she was working. I wish I had that. But we do have that house and Kingsley is trying to steal that from us.” The protesters chanted in unison, “Shame!”

“It is not fair for them to be doing this here or anywhere in the country. This is happening everywhere in the country but this needs to stop and needs to change. That’s how things happen in this county. We move, operate, get together, we become one movement and then things change,” ended Pedraza.

Victor Fuentes is another Coach Royal resident who is facing eviction. He took off his sun hat before speaking to reveal a large scar with stitches running all across his scalp. “We are all here to put an end to retaliation, repression and harassment. My family and I have been evicted. We all do things we regret and to de-stress myself I began to drink. I had a great fall and don’t recommend using it to drown out your thoughts and worries. I am the provider of my family and now I can’t keep a roof over my family's head.”

Fuentes continued, “I came to give this testimony because enough is enough. Enough of stomping their foot over our necks. They are trying to silence us. This must stop. What else do we have to lose? For everyone here, it costs them so much to own their homes. They are shamelessly stealing our homes. It is unjust. We are demanding justice. We need to fight because if even one of us refuses to fight they will keep trampling over us!”

The protesters erupted in chants, “Stop the evictions! Stop the harassment! Stop the threats!”.

The last speaker was Karla García, who was evicted from her home for helping other Coach Royal residents fight for their home titles. “I tried helping out other residents and I was punished for it. The corporation once again came to my home and told me that if I did help out others I would end up homeless. They started harassing, bullying and threatening me. I was attacked every single day until they took everything from me.”

The protest ended with Guadalupe Barragan on a megaphone marching through the Coach Royal neighborhoods urging the residents to stand up and fight back. A meeting was held later in the evening for residents and CSO members to strategize on what the next steps will be in the fight for justice for the Coach Royal residents.

Santa Ana, CA – Tensions rode high Tuesday, March 17, when Santa Ana residents, along with Community Service Organization, Orange County (CSO OC) attended city council. They demanded that killer cops Luis Casillas and Isaac Ibarra be fired from Santa Ana Police Department.

On December 1, 2024, Noe Rodriguez was murdered by Santa Ana Police. Jocelyn Pacheco of CSO OC stated, “Noe Rodriguez was unarmed and experiencing a mental health crisis. When SAPD officers Luis Casillas and Isaac Ibarra shot him 29 times. Bodycam footage shows that they opened fire within 30 seconds of the officers arriving. “

Towards the end of Pacheco’s comment her mic was shut off, despite only being 17 seconds over time. Attendees of the meeting yelled “Let her speak!” and “Shame!”

Matthew Compton talked about an incident that occurred with Officer Ibarra on February 18, stating, “Members of CSO along with the family of Noe Rodriguez were outside Santa Ana Police Department recording videos. Isaac Ibarra intentionally left the department where we were standing in an attempt to intimidate us.”

Compton continued, “Isaac elbowed both myself and another CSO member, then later shoulder-checked me and threw a fake punch at a different CSO member. Isaac is highly mentally unstable and should not be allowed on the force let alone carry lethal weapons.”

In response to more comments with concerns about officer Ibarra’s behavior, Mayor Valerie Amezcua, who receives campaign funding from the Santa Ana Police Officer’s Association, had this to say: “I had my husband watch that video with Officer Ibarra, and I felt really bad for him.” She continued with “I think he behaved in a manner where I was like wow. It’s a hard thing, he was walking to his car.”

Family members impacted by police violence were present, including Noe Rodriguez’s family and the family of Albert Arzola. He was only 19 years old when he was killed by Anaheim police officers on December 6, 2025.

Grace Arzola called out the council, stating: “Valerie and Phil, body language is everything. You guys are more concerned over a charter, and light poles not being fixed than you are with people losing their lives.” Arzola pointed out that the mayor wasn’t paying attention and was slouched over during public comments.

David Pulido, a CSO OC member mentioned “Luis Casillas killed two people within one month. Noe Rodriguez on December 1, 2024 and Henry Gonzalez Jr on January 1, 2025. Casillas was also involved in a brutal beating of a 15-year-old minor Mario Diaz. For all his crimes, SAPD has not fired Luis Casillas. Instead, they moved him from patrol to the crimes against persons division.”

Pulido concluded, “We demand Luis Casillas and Isaac Ibarra be fired before they can kill again! If you do nothing, then the blood will be on your hands. The blood is on the hands of Police Chief Robert Rodriguez. The blood will be on your hands, City Manager Alvaro Nunez. The blood will be on any councilmembers who stand against accountability. That will be your legacy, and we will never let anyone forget that!” The audience applauded and cheered.

As the meeting ended, some council members, like Jonathan Hernandez, showed support for the firing of Luis Casillas and Isaac Ibarra. Others showed their disdain towards Santa Ana residents.

The family of Noe Rodriguez, along with CSO OC and residents of Santa Ana, have been fighting for over a year to seek justice for Noe Rodriguez. CSO members declared that they will not stop until Luis Casillas and Isaac Ibarra are fired and jailed for their crimes.

Santa Ana, CA- On Saturday, March 7, about 50 community members rallied in El Salvador Park for International Women’s Day. Despite the intense gusts of Santa Ana winds, participants remained in high spirits. They condemned the many attacks on women and LGBTQ people by the Trump administration.

Rain Mendoza from CSO OC’s immigration committee kicked off the speeches and talked about the impact ICE terror, stating, “An example of this are the many women who have miscarried at detention centers, women who were sexually assaulted by ICE impersonators, and the rape of a Nicaraguan detainee at the South Louisiana ICE Processing Center.”

Rachel Pozos, co-founder of AlianzaTransLatinx talked about her experience living in Orange County as a trans, immigrant woman for the last 21 years. “I haven’t always been seen by society with the dignity I deserve. Even then, I get up every day with the force that my identity gives me.” Pozos added, “Being an immigrant has taught me to value my roots, to hold on to my culture, and remember that there are a lot of us who have crossed borders for a better future where we can be ourselves, without fear or shame.”

Local writer Anatalia Valdez presented spoken word poetry focused on ancestral connections and social justice. Posters honoring several women, including Emma Tenayuca, Renee Good and Dolores Huerta, were on the trees surrounding the crowd in the park.

Guadalupe Barragan, a resident and organizer of the Coach Royal mobile home park, energized the crowd with a fiery speech. “I live in a mobile home park and we are having a terrible time. The managers and the owners of the park harass the residents, they take their homes. There was even a death. This person ended up taking their own life. We need to stand up for our rights!” Barragan called out the owners of the park, stating, “The Kingsley corporation are murderers, thieves, and we are not going to allow it!”

While speeches went on, park users started to gather at the event to listen in. In the background, children made art at CSO OC’s childcare station.

The women fighting for justice for their loved ones killed by police were highlighted during the program. A statement by Erika Armenta was read. She is the wife of Noe Rodriguez, who was killed by Santa Ana Police in December 2024. She and her daughters have been driving the fight for justice and to hold the officers responsible accountable.

Pearl Arzola, sister of Albert Arzola who was killed by Anaheim Police in December of 2025 spoke on being a single mother of three while fighting for justice. “There are days where the weight feels heavy, where sleep is short, and when you question if you’re doing enough. But women keep going. Mothers keep going. We push forward. Not for ourselves but for our children and for the generations that come after us.”

A DJ set by Tan Tan Club played in the background of a program intermission as participants visited the organizational tables set up around the park. Francis Co. and the Lusitanos also performed music delivering stories of life in Santa Ana.

Hala Nakhoul of the U.S. Palestinian Community Network (USPCN) spoke about coming to the U.S. as a teenager, a choice made out of desperation by her mother, stating, “We thought that America was the land of the free and the home of the brave, but after over 40 years living in this country, it has been my experience that this is the land of proxy wars for our occupier Israel.”

Diana Terreros of Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) stated, “Right now we see a feminism that celebrates the bombing of Iran in the name of liberating women while ignoring that one of the first bombings in this war killed more than 100 girls at an elementary school.” Terreros concluded, “Over time, I realized, like many women before me have realized, that women cannot be free until we establish socialism through a revolution. I joined FRSO because I'm serious about making this happen.”

The crowd ended the event strong by marching towards Civic Center Drive to hold a sign-waving. Signs read “Stand with immigrant women” and “Stop the deportations – keep families together.” They chanted “Trump escucha, estamos en la lucha!” as cars driving by honked in support.

The event was organized by CSO Orange County and endorsed by USPCN, United Domestic Workers, FRSO, Pride at the Pier, AlianzaTransLatinx, South Asian Network, and more.

Armenta concluyó diciendo, “Nuestra unidad como CSO ha creado una familia. Me siento muy feliz por mis hijas. Les pregunto, ‘¿Qué es CSO?'. Y ellas me contestan a mí que para ellas, es una familia. Porque, como una familia, nos apoyamos y nos ayudamos. ¡Y en este caso no importa que no llevamos la misma sangre, porque estamos en la misma lucha!”

Armenta también habló en nombre de la familia de Imanol González. Era un chicano de 19 años de Santa Ana que fue atropellado y asesinado por el sargento Carlos Coronel, agente de policía de Los Ángeles fuera de servicio y en estado de ebriedad, el 1 de febrero de 2025. Coronel huyó del lugar sin llamar a los servicios médicos ni alertar a la policía. La familia de Imanol, incluyendo su madre, Ariana Salvador, asistió a la inauguración del mural. CSO exige que el sargento Carlos Coronel sea procesado con todo el peso de la ley. Puede firmar una petición para apoyar estas demandas aquí.

La familia de Albert Arzola también acudió a mostrar su apoyo. Albert Arzola era un chicano de 19 años que fue asesinado por la policía de Anaheim el 6 de diciembre de 2025. Los agentes identificaron a Arzola, salieron de un auto sin identificación y lo persiguieron hasta el porche de su casa. Uno de los agentes disparó a Arzola por la espalda y lo mató, y la policía detuvo a su familia, incluyendo niños pequeños, durante horas mientras registraban su casa.

La madre de Albert Arzola, Rosie Camacho, dijo: “Estoy aquí para apoyar a todos los que también han sufrido la violencia policial. ¡No estamos solos! ¡Queremos justicia! ¡Y vamos a tener justicia!” Camacho continuó diciendo: “Quienes nos han hecho daño no deberían seguir trabajando para la ley, porque ya le quitaron la vida a mi hijo: Albert Arzola. ¡No nos vamos a callar!” La familia Arzola exige que se hagan públicas todas las imágenes de las cámaras corporales del incidente, el informe de la autopsia y los nombres de los agentes.

El mural de Noé Rodríguez fue terminado por los artistas José Ortiz y Esteban Ginez, quien estuvo presente en la inauguración. CSO entregó a Ginez un certificado de reconocimiento por su trabajo. El concejal de Santa Ana, Jonathan Hernández, ayudó a contratar a los artistas y a conseguir la ubicación del mural. En 2021, el primo de Hernández, Brandon López, fue perseguido por la policía de Anaheim y asesinado en Santa Ana. Hernández es blanco frecuente de Valerie Amezcua, Phil Bacerra y David Penaloza.

CSO cerró el evento con la música de Banda Cuisillos de Arturo Macías, la música favorita de Noé, mientras Erika Armenta servía el pozole que había preparado para los asistentes. El mural simboliza la dignidad de Noé Rodríguez y otras víctimas de la violencia policial. Se niega a permitir que la ciudad olvide lo que le sucedió hace más de un año a un chicano de 31 años, de clase trabajadora, un padre y esposo que luchaba por sobrevivir como muchos lo hacen en el suroeste.

El mural se encuentra a menos de una milla de donde otros chicanos fueron asesinados recientemente por la policía: Víctor López en 2026 y Miguel Chávez en 2022. Pero menos conocido es el linchamiento racista de Francisco Torres en 1892, a solo cinco minutos de distancia. El largo legado de violencia racista contra los chicanos refleja el otro significado del mural de Noé – la lucha por la liberación chicana continúa. Pero, como dijo Erika Armenta, “nuestra fuerza para seguir adelante es más grande”.
