Caracas, Venezuela – On their first day in Venezuela, April 28, the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) delegation held a two-hour meeting with members of Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) Central Committee and leaders of the Communist Youth of Venezuela.

The FRSO delegation is headed by Organizational Secretary Tom Burke.

The groups shared their views on the revolutionary struggle in both of their countries, and the importance of international solidarity.

Pedro Eusse, a PCV Politburo member and trade union leader, said “If there is anything positive about the U.S. aggression we face today, it is that there has been an explosion of solidarity from the United States and around the world.”

Both groups agreed to move towards a closer working relationship in the future.

Fajardo was the dynamic leader of the campesino movement in Sur del Lago, an area in the state of Mérida where the rural class struggle is sharp. The reactionary right wing has deep roots in rural western Venezuela, and since the 2001 land reforms hundreds of campesino activists have been killed in the region.

In their statement condemning the assassination of Fajardo, the PCV stated, “For the murder of our comrade, we hold responsible the big landowners of Sur del Lago, and the corrupt members of the National Guard and local politicians that publicly threatened him.” These right-wing politicians and landowners are backed by the Trump administration, which declares that all options – including war – are on the table to overthrow the Maduro government and end the Bolivarian Revolution.

We condemn the killing of Fajardo and call on the United States to end all support for the violent far-right opposition of Venezuela. We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the revolutionary masses of Venezuela and their government led by Nicolás Maduro. Hasta la victoria, comrades!

Milwaukee, WI – For several days, tens of thousands of campesinos have marched into Caracas from every corner of Venezuela – some having traveled for weeks – calling for a revolutionary struggle to resolve the land crisis. Called the “Admirable Campesino March,” the demonstration was organized and led by a number of revolutionary groups, including the Communist Party.

Since the start of the Bolivarian Revolution there has been a vicious struggle over ownership of the land. Like the rest of South America, the clear majority of Venezuela's farmland belongs to a handful of wealthy families, many of whom trace their ancestry back to the Spanish colonizers.

Land reform began during the Chávez government, and significant portions of land were distributed to poor rural families. Yet to this day, much of the farmland is still the domain of the old Creole aristocracy. They refuse to give up their power. In the years since the land reform, hundreds of campesino activists have been assassinated by far-right Colombian paramilitaries, hired by the wealthy landlords to terrorize their revolutionary-minded workforce. Local politicians, paid off by the landlords, look the other way and many of these murders remain unresolved.

The question of the land is all the more pertinent today. Venezuela is wracked by economic crisis, spurred on by capitalist sabotage and an economic blockade enforced by the United States. Most of the country's food has to be imported, and the fear over food security could be resolved if the land belonged to those willing to produce on it. The Venezuelan masses desire national sovereignty, and this includes the ability to feed themselves.

It is in this context that the Admirable Campesino March has been undertaken. Along with their demand for revolutionary land redistribution, the campesinos demand a distribution of seeds to small farmers, justice for the families of slain campesino activists, and a national plan to achieve food sovereignty.

On August 2, President Nicolás Maduro spoke to a crowd of the marchers and gave support to their demands. At this weekend's 4th Congress of the United Socialist Party (PSUV), Maduro had called on the Venezuelan people to take actions just like the marchers, for all revolutionary forces and classes to work to develop the productive forces in order to create an independent national economy.

Maduro united with the campesinos, declaring, “the laws must be changed in order to have a revolutionary agrarian system of the 21st century, in the hands of the people.” The march leaders agreed with Maduro to hold a Great National Campesino Congress in late September with the goal of implementing the demands of the country's campesinos.

Every day millions of Venezuelans – imbued with a revolutionary consciousness only possible after decades of major social advances via the class struggle – are working to build a new society that operates in their interests. The workers and campesinos have taken it on themselves to solve the crisis they face, while the wealthy in their country and ours sneer at them, blaming their desire for freedom and socialism as the cause of their suffering. But we know the truth, and the revolutionary Venezuelan people – like their campesino comrades – march on.

On behalf of the party, PCV Politburo member Carlos Aquino declared solidarity with the Brazilian former president and with the revolutionary and popular organizations of their neighboring country facing a right-wing onslaught.

“We should learn from this experience and reflect over what can happen in our country if the right-wing wins the [May presidential] election. Their organizations will begin an assault to dismantle the people’s achievements and persecute the social and political movements, like what is happening in Brazil and Argentina,” expressed Aquino.

However, the lesson is not unconditional support for the Venezuelan government, but rather “demonstrates that the Venezuelan popular movement must strengthen its capacity for combative mobilization so that the government resolves the grave economic and social problems hurting the working people.”

For the PCV, the only way to avoid the right retaking power in our country is the application of revolutionary means in order to leave behind the crisis of rentier-dependent capitalism.

Time of Popular Encounters in Perú

Aquino also spoke on the Latin American Gathering of Communist Parties, currently underway in Lima, which will enable the necessary articulation and coordination of the efforts of communist parties to confront the imperialist onslaught in the region.

Finally, the communist leader indicated that a PCV and Communist Youth delegation will participate in the discussions taking place this week at the Summit of the Americas, as a space for continental integration and anti-imperialist mobilization.

Meeting in Caracas Feb. 26, the Venezuelan Communist Party (PCV) and the governing United Socialist Party (PSUV) reached a historic agreement after days of negotiation. As a result of the “PSUV-PCV Unitary Accord,” the first of its kind in the country’s revolutionary struggle, the two parties agree to work together to solve the challenges facing Venezuela and the Bolivarian Revolution. The PCV also agreed to endorse Nicolás Maduro for president in the upcoming April 22 election. The Unitary Accord was presented at the PCV’s Fourteenth National Conference, during which President Maduro and several top PSUV members and government ministers addressed the delegates and signed the Accord. 1. The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) — as inheritors of Simón Bolívar’s legacy and the Venezuelan people’s struggles in their desire for independence, sovereign development and Latin American integration — submit the present Unitary Programmatic Accord Framework with a common commitment to apply it in all manners, understanding that the growing immoral, illegal and criminal interventionist aggression of U.S. imperialism and its European allies against the Venezuelan Bolivarian process puts at risk the national liberation process initiated by the people’s victory and led by comandante President Hugo Chávez in the 1998 presidential elections; and endangers our national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

2. The PSUV and the PCV denounce before the world that imperialism — by means of the U.S. government and with the complicity of Latin American governments and the Venezuelan far right — wants to create a false expedient in multilateral organisms against our country to justify international intervention, with the real possibility of the right-wing governments of Colombia, Brazil and Guyana causing a provocation on our borders.

3. The PCV and the PSUV point out that the crisis of Venezuelan rentier-dependent capitalism has grave consequences on the quality of life of our people, especially in their purchasing power and ability to access goods and services. This situation has been aggravated by the actions of imperialism and its national agents, and exacerbated by public and private corruption, bureaucratism and the outflow of foreign currency, in the context of severe reduction of oil exports, against which the national government must maintain and deepen the front line struggle such as that occurring in the PDVSA [the government owned oil and gas company] and other state-owned entities.*

4. The PSUV and the PCV agree that the exit from the current capitalist crisis must not be in the interests of the bourgeoisie and the transnationals, but rather in the interests of the people, and in search of a new post-rentier productive model, of sovereign development, and of spreading protagonist participation for workers, campesinos, the communes and the people. This conforms to a great anti-imperialist front and will advance the construction of an organic instance of collective leadership of political, social, patriotic and revolutionary organizations for the analysis, construction and coordination of political actions and the running of the government.

5. The magnitude and gravity of the current situation, and the deepening class struggle on the national and international levels, merits immediate action in the political, social and economic realms, among which urgent methods must be prioritized to attend to popular needs in food and health, and in order to consolidate the victories of the patriotic forces in the upcoming presidential elections.

The Rights of the Working Class and Working People

6. The PSUV and the PCV recognizes the importance of strengthening class struggle unionism and the diverse expressions of the revolutionary workers movement, such as the productive workers’ movements, the socialist workers’ councils, approving the Special Law established by the LOTTT** and all other revolutionary worker organizational forms, respecting their autonomy, and developing effective channels so that public and private sector workers can play the leading role in developing the social process of work.

7. Taking account of the deepening capitalist crisis which impacts broad sectors of the working class, it is important to strengthen and reinforce labor rights, employment protection and broaden new employment policies.

8. The PSUV and the PCV will work in unison according to the reach of each organization, from the government and socio-political spaces, to identify and channel the restitution of workers’ rights that are infringed upon in already-occurring cases or that present themselves in public and private entities.

9. To review denunciations made by revolutionary organizations against the actions of public officials and immediately apply the necessary correctives.

10. To decisively advance the proper productive chain of nationalized companies, which must be revitalized to reverse the processes of dismantlement and deterioration that could lead to the harmful paralysis of national productive development, as well as protecting and institutionally supporting campesino collectives that have reactivated state-owned funds.

11. The PSUV and the PCV will evaluate the experiences of workers’ control, such as the Socialist Guayana Plan, in order to establish a new model of state-owned company leadership, under worker and popular control for the processes of production, administration and distribution of goods and services, based in collective leadership, to definitively banish the scourge of corruption, inefficiency and anti-democratic methods within their management.

12. To promote and implement decisive actions on the part of the National Supervision in Defense of Socio-Economic Rights (SUNDDE) and the Supervision of Institutions of the Banking Sector (SUDEBAN), in unison with the popular organizations, with the goal of protecting the millions of users of banking services, particularly salaried employees, pensioners and small business owners.

13. We consider it pertinent and urgent to adopt and deepen measures aimed at dismantling the power of private monopolies, and define and carry out policies to achieve sovereign and productive development, punishing the corrupt, speculators and mafia types; to promote the deepening and carrying out of policies for national, sovereign and productive development.

14. To recognize formal work with rights as an activity that provides dignity for human beings, as well as to strengthen wages and restore them as the principle and majority component of the earnings of workers.

Methods to Analyze with Great Profundity

15. The PSUV and the PCV, in bilateral and periodic meetings, will analyze the strategic proposals currently being outlined by the PCV to assist in the good development of government plans and policies in order to benefit the people and achieve national liberation, among them:

15.1 Themes around the banking and financial system, imports, public financing, and the tax system.

Strengthening of political organizational action

16. The PSUV and the PCV will identify areas of common action that must be strengthened politically and organizationally.

16.1 The PCV and the PSUV will maintain bilateral meetings, with a timetable of periodicity of at least one time, between representatives of both national leadership bodies.

16.2 The PSUV and the PCV will follow the work of regional and municipal administrations so that they develop effective policies, with attention to the felt needs of the population.

16.3 In the international area, based in spheres of action and attention to each organization, the parties will fortify their relations with bodies that have demonstrated solidarity with Venezuela and the revolutionary process.

16.4 In the productive area, support for manufacturing and agricultural proposals and projects will be guaranteed, with special emphasis on the initiatives of the campesino movement and the communes.

16.5 The PSUV and the PCV commit themselves to fortify the trade union movement, facilitating cooperation between revolutionary and class struggle currents and state entities for the solution to problems and labor conflicts, as well as respect for all labor rights.

16.6 The parties will support related projects with methods of audio-visual communication to be initiated by both organizations and by the popular and workers movements, and collaborate in combat against the media war and psychological operations.

16.7 The political organizations will support further relationship between the youth organizations — the Youth of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela and the Communist Youth of Venezuela — along with a drive for student, cultural, sports and community proposals, for deepening the rights of the youth.

16.8 With the objective of advancing in the development of the PSUV-PCV alliance and the popular revolutionary movement, we will work to guarantee a unitary formula of an electoral character that provides the effective presence and strength of our organizations in the legislative elections on municipal, statewide and national levels.

Presidential Elections

17. The Communist Party of Venezuela, based in the present accord and on the diverse points of unity with the United Socialist Party of Venezuela with regards to national and international policies, support the candidacy of compatriot Nicolás Maduro Moros at the head of a broad coalition of political and social forces — patriotic, popular and revolutionary — as the seed of collective leadership of the process, which represents the popular aspirations of anti-imperialist struggles, Latin American unity, sovereign development, and the interests of the Venezuelan people. We will work jointly without reducing the autonomy of each organization to achieve a decisive victory on April 22, 2018.

\* Since August, the country’s attorney general has led a sweeping anti-corruption campaign in PDVSA that has led to dozens of arrests, including of former PDVSA presidents and oil ministers.

The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) revealed that they are holding, with other allied political organizations and social movements, a national day of people's mobilization against the starvation of the people and in defense of workers’ rights, to demand that the national government and the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) confront the economic crisis.

“In order to confront the aggressive and criminal speculative escalation of the costs of basic goods, the PCV has proposed, to the organizations of the Anti-Imperialist and Anti-Fascist Popular Front and other parties of the patriotic camp, the organization of this day of struggle,” said Oscar Figuera, general secretary of the communist camp.

The mobilization will have as its destination the national office of Fedecámaras [the Venezuelan Chamber of Commerce] in Caracas, the Presidency of the Republic and the ANC.

“The objective is to denounce the criminal policies of Fedecámaras and other affiliated businessmen, those monopoly capitalists and lapdogs of imperialism, and also to demand that the government take energetic action to prevent this process of aggression from continuing its course,” stated Figuera.

Noone can disrespect the people for their criticisms and demands

The PCV stated their position in defense of the people's movement that has criticized the passivity of the government and the ANC in recent weeks, in the face of a concerning rise of prices, and has been threatened that they will be remembered as traitors or fools.

“We do not coincide with those, acting in their authority as Constituents, who go off condemning the demands of the people's movement to the ANC and the national government; there are speakers in the ANC that go to the extreme disrespecting the people, accusing them of being traitor, counter-revolutionaries and fools,” said Figuera.

In equal manner the Party alerted that if the working people do not perceive concrete action from the national government, then the electoral victories achieved by the patriotic forces will begin to dilute.

“The people elected the government and the ANC so that they will take concrete actions, if they do not comply with what they promised then they will be moved aside,” emphasized the PCV.

Acts of the Centenary of the Bolshevik Revolution

The VI Plenum of the PCV, held on Oct. 29, approved the commemoration plan of the Centenary of the Bolshevik Revolution, as a significant date for the international revolutionary movement, which was a milestone in the history of workers’ and people’s struggles against capitalism and reactionary and reformist forces.

“The beginning of the commemoration will be on Nov. 7 with a political cultural event in the Bolívar Plaza in Caracas, and we will continue with various days of workshops and meetings in the Cantaclaro Theater, the national headquarters of the PCV,” said Oscar Figuera.

He added that the activities will conclude on Nov. 18 with an event at the headquarters of the PCV.

The 7th National Meeting of Revolutionary Organizations was held with success, organized by Revolutionary Anti-Imperialist People’s Unity (UPRA) and with speakers from over 50 national and regional organizations, including delegates of the National Constituent Assembly and national representatives from the Revolutionary Party of Labor, the Gayones Movement, the Homeland For All Party, and the Communist Party of Venezuela.

During this 7th National Meeting, speakers from distinct popular sectors – workers, campesinos, commune workers, youth, women, and others – expressed a range of interpretations of the global and national reality, as well as gave proposals to advance the struggle of the people’s revolutionary movement in Venezuela.

Themes discussed included: the need for a proletarian party in the organization and conducting of a revolution; the need to achieve genuine sovereignty and economic independence; the unity of revolutionary forces to rescue the class struggle in our country; and the role of the working class in the process of organizing a revolution and seizing political power.

100 years of the Bolshevik Revolution served as a historic and practical framework to understand the revolutionary transformations needed to form a more advanced society, and from this an analysis of the situation in our country, the National Constituent Assembly, the national crisis and the role of the revolutionary party were lifted up by the speakers.

The homage to the Centenary of the Great October Socialist Revolution was in the air of the participants, with the Bolshevik experience serving as a guiding light for proletarian revolutionaries in the process of building a society for the masses. Letters from Afar, The April Theses, On the National Question, Resolutions and Debates of the Congresses, What Is To Be Done? and The Catastrophe That Threatens Us and How to Fight It were referenced by those present throughout the meeting, to reaffirm our commitment to the experiences of Marxism-Leninism.

Going forward as a result of this meeting, a series of important commitments between those present were made, to continue strengthening this instrument of unity as a genuinely revolutionary formation, in defense of the interests of working people.

Also confirmed was the commitment to continue working towards unity, alliance, and agreement between the revolutionary left and other advanced forces on the national and international level, strengthening relations with the International League of People’s Struggle (ILPS), of which UPRA is a part, along with organizations like the Revolutionary People’s Front in Mexico, from whom we received greetings and congratulations for continuing this initiative.

The success of this new work of UPRA strengthens all working people, knowing that with the assistance of these organizations a unifying action is consolidated which, sooner rather than later, will bear fruits in the consolidation of joint action of the proletarian forces. We feel joyful to contribute to bringing organizations and leaders closer together, when at other points in the history of Venezuela’s revolutionary struggle distance has been opted for instead, and now doors are opened to a future of victories.

The Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) expressed its satisfaction with the demonstration of political maturity from the Venezuelan working people with their massive participation in the recent regional elections, which gave a clear message of rejection to the fascist sectors and their agenda of violence that had been carried out for months in the major cities of the country.

This was expressed by Carlos Aquino, member of the PCV Political Bureau, who suggested that “there had been a significant rejection by certain sectors of violent guarimbero [right-wing opposition] politics, that do not reflect the positions and opinions of the diverse peoples that still support the opposition sectors.”

Aquino indicated, furthermore, that the regional election also represented an action “in defense of our country, our sovereignty, and the self-determination of our people, to establish the path of development that suits us best and that we establish as the people.”

The PCV also recognized the transparency of the electoral process and supports the proposal of President Nicolás Maduro to audit 100% of the votes on the national level.

PCV as the second force of the Patriotic Bloc

The PCV sent a thank you and combative recognition to the more than 300,000 people that expressed their support for the Communist ticket – as a critical message to the sectors of the pro-imperialist right and fascism, but also to the reformist and opportunist sectors in the seats of government.

“We were the second force among the patriotic organizations in 21 out of 23 states,” stated Carlos Aquino.

Moreover, what stood out was the significant weight that the patriotic parties in general, and the PCV in particular, had in guaranteeing victory in many states, which “should be a message that the national government must attend to, that permits them to realize the necessary path of their policy of alliances.”

In the specific case of the state of Apure, the PCV saluted the 28,248 men and women that expressed their critical vote for the revolutionary option of Víctor Castillo, achieving 14.4% of the vote “in spite of unprincipled actions, aggressions, and sectarianism on the part of the victorious candidate, with the weight of the state government.”

The Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) will activate the electoral final dash until Oct. 12 – when the campaign for regional elections will end – in order to guarantee the victory of revolutionary candidates.

PCV spokesman Oswaldo Ramos reiterated that this political organization is committed to the forces of the Great Patriotic Pole to achieve victory in the 23 governorates, with the slogan “Together for the Fatherland to Resist and Advance Forward.”

Mobilizations in all regions of the country

Ramos stressed the mobilization in all regions of the country “with the firm intention of closing the door on fascism” and the opposition sectors that between April and July sponsored political violence “and intended to hand the country over to imperialism.”

He urged the people to go massively to polling stations this Sunday and support the candidates of the homeland in order to consolidate the progress of the Bolivarian Revolution.

At the Monday press conference, Ramos recalled the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara. “With his death, imperialism intended to end this revolutionary example for the world, but they have failed,” he said.

Carlos Aquino, member of the National Directorate of the Partido Comunista de Venezuela (PCV), assured that the communist camp maintains their commitment with the candidacy of Victor “Vitico” Castillo for governor of Apure State, as a demonstration that it is possible to build a regional government that is genuinely popular. Similarly, the party of the Red Rooster (the PCV) ratified to maintain their support to the other 22 candidates, in perfect alliance with the United Venezuela Socialist Party (PSUV) and the other political organizations in the Bolivarian process.

Aquino, director of the Popular Tribune newspaper, indicated that the agreed slogan by the National Directorate is “Together for the Country, to Resist and Advance,” and the call to working people to exercise a critical, and consequently a revolutionary posture reads across the banner of the PCV.

The first criteria defined by the PCV for these elections have been “look to be a part of a containment wall for those sectors that are clearly identified with the right so that they cannot occupy the spaces of regional government.” With that, the phrase “Together for the Country” defines that necessity to build electoral agreements, though with the differences that the PCV has expressed at different moments about a variety of candidates.

In the case of the state of Apure, the PCV assured that the decision to support the singer and agricultural producer Victor Castillo for governor of Apure is indeclinable, and he is not a ‘symbolic’ candidate for the purposes of “setting a position and marking a difference, he is a candidate for combat and revolutionary victory, to show how these candidates can really do things, with participation, with popular guidance, with openness, not with just speeches lacking real, concrete practices.”

The press conference held by Victor Castillo, who voiced his appreciation of the support from the PCV for his candidacy, later identified coinciding criteria and political assessments about the situation in Apure State, that what is missing is a timely response aimed at the populations and working people.

Finally, Aquino stated that the PCV finds itself ready to begin an electoral campaign beginning the Sept. 23 to engage the regional elections following the dates announced by the National Electoral Council.

PCV: MASS PRESSURE FOR THE ANC TO APPLY POPULAR MEASURES

The successful completion of the July 30 election of members to the National Constituent Assembly (ANC), as well as their subsequent installation on August 4 and the beginning of the Assembly's operation, constitute a resounding defeat to imperialism’s attempt to throw our country into chaos and break up our institutions.

This was one of the conclusions of the 4th Plenum of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV), which was held on August 6 to analyze the new scenarios that arose out of the development of the constituent process, according to Oscar Figuera, Secretary General of the PCV.

Figuera said that “this is an anti-imperialist victory for the whole people, not only chavismo, but it will be short-lived if the ANC only sticks to changing the political superstructure of the country and is not able to immediately generate a set of measures and constituent acts that attack the essential problems of our people.”

Faced with the policy of imperialism, which drew the line of terrorist violence to try to prevent the ANC election, the PCV positively views the speed with which this constitutional period began, as well as the formation of the ANC Directive and the decision to restructure the Public Ministry.

As part of the imperialist plans to try to delegitimize the ANC, the PCV denounced the position taken by the owners of Smartmatic to play a role.

Popular-Worker Leadership

“The Central Committee agreed to call on the ANC and its constituents to keep in touch with the masses, with the people, and to take on genuinely revolutionary proposals that emanate from the labor movement and popular organizations,” said Figuera.

The highest body of collective leadership of the PCV, between one Congress and another, determined the immediate tasks that the militant communist activists will carry out through all their structures, especially focusing to “deepen the efforts with the diverse expressions of the revolutionary movement, and to promote the holding of constituent popular assemblies at the territorial and sectoral levels.”

Figuera explained that the guidance from the mass movements is to feed and expand the programmatic proposals that were presented during the electoral campaign, in order to “bring them to the ANC to be incorporated in their agenda, but also to exercise before the ANC the mass pressure necessary to ensure that these proposals are immediately implemented as measures and constituent acts.”

“In the context of advancing the worker-peasant and popular alliance, for the unrestricted defense of the people’s rights and with the objective of a revolutionary deepening of the Bolivarian process, the PCV and other patriotic organizations will fight for the ANC to assume and implement policies that transcend the administrative institutionality of the state and the government, and have as its central axis the leadership of workers-popular control,” emphasized Figuera.

The Communist leader said that “it is urgent to combat the high cost of living, speculation, corruption and insecurity; to restore the rights of workers who have been violated, as a matter of labor stability, in which the ANC must approve all decisions ordered by Labor Inspectorates that have not been complied with by the public and private employers.”

Peace with social justice

“The ANC has a historic responsibility not to disappoint the message expressed on July 30, of widespread condemnation to foreign intervention and the violence of the fascist extreme right at the service of imperialist capital,” reflected Figuera.

According to the PCV, there was a wide participation of the popular sectors and the middle strata that identify with the Bolivarian process, but there was also the participation of important sectors that do not support the approaches or policies of the [Bolivarian] process, even openly oppose it; but all expressed their opposition to fascist and terrorist violence and the threat of foreign intervention.

“For this reaction of unity from the Venezuelan people, there was an important role played by the popular movements and the revolutionary forces; so we are convinced that the aggressive policy of imperialism, accompanied by the aggression of oligarchic and right-wing governments in Latin America, will increasingly raise and mobilize the Venezuelan people,” said Figuera.

“The general approach to building a society of peace,” said the Secretary General, “can only materialize and be durable if it is a product of social justice, because true peace is not possible in a society controlled by the exploiters, because exploitation is class violence, violence of a minority against a majority of the people, because poverty is violence of the capitalist society against wide sections of the people.”

Active Presence of the People

The PCV stressed that the interpretation of the results of the ANC election should not be of domination, sectarianism, or arrogance, but of critical and self-critical analysis that correctly evaluates the current political moment and leads all of the revolutionary forces — popular, democratic and progressive — to collectively build a national approach that serves to profoundly transform our dependent capitalist society.

“The ANC is an opportunity to deepen the debate about what the new society should be, a society that is not governed by the principles of capitalist domination and exploitation. That is why it is necessary for the working class and the working people to raise their levels of organization, awareness, participation and leadership, so that they can fulfill the vanguard role that historically corresponds to them in the process of change, in order to give this new cycle of popular offensive a more definite and precise class content, and a new level of combativeness,” added Figuera.

For the communists, in Figuera’s words, “the ANC has to rely on the active presence of the people, debating and defending their own proposals. The ANC is a space in which the pressure of the masses must be present, because the masses must mobilize, they must make their demands felt, they must raise their flags, they must bring to the ANC their own proposals, not only in terms of changes to the Constitution, but also in regard to constitutive acts which signify the immediate defense of the interests and rights of the people, the working class, the peasantry, the intelligentsia, the youth, the students and the women.”
