New York, NY – On Friday, April 4, the New York Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (NYAARPR) held a speakout outside of City Hall. They gathered because just a few days earlier the Department of Justice dropped Mayor Eric Adams’ corruption charges.

In 2024, Cop-Mayor Adams was indicted on corruption charges of having accepted bribes from Turkish dignitaries in the form of airline flights and luxury hotel stays in return for favors. In the last two years, several of Adams’ administration have resigned due to the deep corruption within his government.

Judge Dale Ho, though, denied prosecutors the option to refile the charges after the mayoral election.

Since late 2024, Adams has been vying for Trump’s attention in an effort to get his charges dropped. Adams has been vocally supportive of Trump’s anti-immigrant policies and is happy to overturn the city’s sanctuary status to allow Trump and his border czar, Tom Homan, to run rampant in the city. This was solidified when Mayor Adams skipped out on a local city event in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to attend Trump’s inauguration.

It isn’t a surprise that ICE has been able to go after student activists, like Mahmoud Khalil, when Mayor Adams has been vocally pro-Israel, anti-immigrant and pro-Trump.

NYAARPR called out Mayor Adams and President Trump on how unjust dropping these charges was and urged a needed step in fighting back – community control of the police.

Shivani Ishwar, chair of NYAARPR, closed the protest with their speech, “You don’t want to be here on my Friday night thinking about all this political bullshit that has been going on in our city. I’m with you! I don’t want to fucking think about it either. But this is the city that we have and goddamn it if we’re not going to fight for it! God damn if we’re not going to fight for a city that respects us, protects us, that takes us seriously, instead of sending more and more money to the cops, instead of shielding our government officials from any kind of punishment when they commit crimes!”

NYAARPR has taken on the campaign for Justice for Eudes Pierre and will be organizing around that case to bring him justice.

New York, NY – On a Saturday afternoon, November 9, a couple dozen people gathered to protest the increased presence of the NYPD in the NYC metro system, outside the Jay Street. Metro Tech subway stop in Brooklyn. The protest brought attention to NY Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression’s “Cops Off The Subway” campaign. The campaign demands that the NYPD, MTA PD, and National Guard leave the NYC transit system, end the new version of Stop and Frisk under mayor Eric Adams, and calls for funding communities and social services instead of the NYPD.

While the primary concern of the protest was to promote the demands around policing, given that the action took place only four days after the 2024 presidential election, a secondary theme of the rally was to speak out against Trump's racist agenda. They chanted, “Military, cops, they're all the same, get these pigs off of our trains!”, and “Hey hey! Ho ho! Donald Trump has got to go!” The protest featured speakers from the NY Alliance, Brooklyn Eviction Defense, and NYU Students for a Democratic Society.

Chairperson of NYAARPR, Shivani Ishwar, said, “For years, we’ve watched as cop Mayor Adams has funneled more and more money into the NYPD, and steadily taken away from our schools, our libraries, our communities. And all it’s led to is more violence, less support, and worsening conditions for all of us. With all the money we spend on the NYPD, we could improve the lives of millions of New Yorkers. Instead of paying cops to stand around the subway platforms and play games on their phones, we could make our transit system accessible and free for everyone.”

The organizers spent about an hour chanting and speaking, and even called out the NYPD officers who came out to police the event. At the end, the protesters dropped a spray painted banner which read “Cops off the trains! Safe subways for all” over the entrance to the Jay Street. Metrotech subway stop.

New Yorkers have been fed up with mayor Eric Adams’ pro-cop and anti-people policies, and largely feel intimidated by the increased presence of the NYPD on the subways, especially since the brutal shooting done by the police at the Sutter Avenue station on the L train. People want to feel safe, and the cops aren’t helping with that. Since it was announced that Donald Trump will be the next president of the U.S., there is a buzz in the air in NYC, and people are ready to speak up and fight back against racist the and oppressive policies of both Eric Adams and Donald Trump.

New York, NY – Members of the New York Community Action Project (NYCAP) gathered on the afternoon of Saturday, February 26 to speak out against Mayor Eric Adams’ Blueprint to End Gun Violence proposal.

Adams released this proposal late last month and has already received criticism from the progressive movements in New York. The Blueprint is a general plan for how Adams plans on tackling various problems in New York. He believes that a falling infrastructure, homelessness, a badly managed public transportation system and joblessness all come down to one thing: gun violence.

Gun violence is on the rise in the city and it’s a symptom of a much larger problem – not the cause. Residents of the different boroughs have been very loud and clear about what’s hurting this city, and gun violence is not at the top of the list.

Adams’ proposal calls for: placing more officers in neighborhoods are already affected by over-policing, tightening the relationship between the NYPD and state police, using technology to identify individuals before they commit crimes, growing a stronger relationship with the ATF and the FBI, empowering business and churches to give information to the NYPD through the use of surveillance, prosecuting 16 and 17-year-olds as adults if found with a gun, allowing judges to take ‘dangerousness’ into account, and much more.

This Blueprint is an incredibly dangerous proposal for everyone living in New York and will largely affect already oppressed and overpoliced populations — mainly Black and brown people. It’s paramount that New Yorkers begin addressing the Blueprint now before it fully takes effect.

NYCAP members highlighted and broke down different aspects of the Blueprint during a live stream event (you can watch it here) and held the speak out to continue their campaign against it. The solution they were calling for is a Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC) as they say that’s the true way for working people to gain safety back in their neighborhoods.

NYCAP will continue to host speak outs and actions against Mayor Adams’ proposals and will continue advocating for a CPAC in the next coming months.
