We hail with revolutionary fervor the long-overdue release of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, the indomitable Lebanese resistance fighter who, after 41 years of unjust imprisonment in the dungeons of the French state, walks free at last. His liberation is not a gift from the oppressors – it is a victory wrestled from the jaws of imperialist vengeance through decades of struggle, solidarity, and resistance.

A stalwart champion of the Palestinian cause, Abdallah engaged in the struggle as a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the Lebanese Revolutionary Armed Factions (LRAF).

As confirmed by Al Akhbar, the Paris Court of Appeal finally concluded Abdallah’s legal ordeal on July 18, 2025, clearing the way for his release on July 25—more than four decades after the French state, in collusion with U.S. and Zionist interests, sought to bury him alive for his role in the anti-imperialist and Palestinian liberation struggle.

Georges Abdallah is not merely a former political prisoner—he is a living symbol of revolutionary resilience, unyielding patience, and principled commitment to the people’s right to freedom, democracy, dignity, and national independence. Despite being eligible for parole since 1999, Abdallah refused to renounce his convictions. He did not beg for mercy—he stood firm, proud, and uncompromising, even when the prison walls sought to crush his spirit.

His release is not a closure—it is a clarion call. It ignites the flame of struggle against imperialism, Zionism, and all reactionary forces. It affirms the justness of armed and unarmed resistance against occupation, colonization, and exploitation. It is a tribute to the martyrs and comrades who gave their lives for liberation and a reminder that the struggle continues until all chains are broken.

We welcome Georges Abdallah’s return to Lebanon with clenched fists and open arms. The sea of red flags, Palestinian banners, and revolutionary songs that greeted him are testament to the enduring unity of the peoples’ struggles across borders. His freedom belongs not only to Lebanon, but to Palestine, to the oppressed masses of the Arab world, and to all those who resist imperialist domination.

As we celebrate this moment, we issue a renewed and militant call to action: Free all political prisoners! Intensify the global resistance! Fight imperialism in all its forms! Let the legacy of Georges Abdallah inspire new generations to rise, organize, and resist without compromise.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine organized a rally outside the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza City on October 25 in support of imprisoned Comrade Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, held in French prisons for 32 years. Members of the leadership of the Front, the Prisoners Commission, the campaign in solidarity with Ahmad Sa’adat, political parties and the families of the prisoners and martyrs joined in the rally to demand Abdallah’s freedom.

Comrade Haneen Ammar opened the event with a message from the imprisoned General Secretary of the PFLP, Comrade Ahmad Sa’adat. The message emphasized that supporting the struggle of the prisoners for freedom is part and parcel of the struggle for the freedom of Georges Abdallah. Sa’adat denounced the distortion of reality by the dominant powers of imperialism and globalization, in which the freedom fighter is labeled a terrorist, and the victim labeled a killer.

Sa’adat said that the efforts to free Georges Abdallah will secure a victory not only for him but for all oppressed peoples, prisoners of conscience and victims of torture, as a triumph of humanity and the Palestinian struggle for freedom. He saluted the strugglers in Palestine, Lebanon and everywhere that people are struggling in the face of oppression, injustice and tyranny.

Comrade Allam Kaabi, leader of the Front’s Prisoners Commission in the Gaza Strip, denounced the continuing imprisonment of Abdallah by the French state that today enters its 33rd year. He demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Abdallah and vowed that all means of pressure for his release are legitimate. Kaabi noted that Abdallah is a fighter for freedom and justice who has dedicated his life to confronting imperialism and the Zionist colonial project with resistance. He is a figure of historical weight in the Palestinian, Arab and international struggle, said Kaabi, noting that he retains his strong commitment to radical analysis and resistance and that this is one reason he remains imprisoned today by the French state.

Kaabi said that the cause of Abdallah is closely linked to the cause of thousands of Palestinian prisoners suffering within occupation prisons, saying that the two issues cannot be separated. He denounced the racist laws that transform the freedom fighter Georges Abdallah into a ‘terrorist,’ noting that they are the same laws that label Palestinian prisoners as ‘terrorists.’ He called upon the Lebanese state to take up its responsibility and pressure seriously for the release of Georges Abdallah. He urged the continuation of the movement to free Georges Abdallah with pressure on the French state, especially in Palestine, as part of the movement to support the brave prisoners in Zionist jails.

He concluded by pledging coordination between Palestinian, Arab and international revolutionary forces to pressure together for his release.

The event included the burning photos of the three rulers most complicit in the imprisonment of Georges Abdallah and his fellow Palestinian prisoners, French President Francois Hollande, US President Barack Obama and Zionist prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

New York, New York – A group of activists gathered in front of the French Consulate on Oct. 21, to stand in solidarity with Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, a Lebanese Arab freedom fighter for Palestine, and demand his immediate release.

The picket was part of the International Week of Action (Oct. 15-22) in support of Abdallah and it was the second event that the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network hosted to bring attention to Abadallah’s case.

The French government imprisoned Georges Ibrahim Abdallah over 32 years ago. His crime was participating in actions that decried Israel’s invasion and, consequent occupation, of Lebanon and targeted U.S. and Israeli interests. The French courts subjected Abdallah to sham trial where foreign powers became involved. One of his lawyers was used to spy on him. Originally, he was up for release in 1999. However, each time he set to be released under parole to Lebanon, forces beyond him stop the process. It’s happened multiple times where the French judiciary will approve the release but higher legal powers intervene to halt the process, such as the Interior Minister or the U.S. government under the guise of Hillary Clinton.

Throughout his imprisonment in Lannemezan prison, Abdallah has remained a staunch anti-Zionist, anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist voice in the Arab and Palestinian movement. He has organized hunger strikes within the prison to stand with Palestinian hunger strikers, such as Bilal Kayed. He has openly supported the BDS movement and other pro-Arab liberation movements throughout the world.

Abdallah’s imprisonment is recognized as part of the larger struggle for justice of Palestinian and Arab political prisoners, activists and for liberation. France’s targeting of Palestinian, Arab and anti-Zionist activists speaks to the country’s long history of xenophobic and chauvinist actions.

The New York protesters stood in front of the consulate chanting, “Free, free Georges Abdallah” as a steady stream of French diplomats and important figures walked through the doors. The protesters stayed past sundown and handed out flyers to those walking by. Despite the peaceful nature of the protest, six NYPD officers and three cop cars flanked the demonstration.

On Oct. 22, a large mobilization at the Lannemezan prison took place to end the solidarity week of action for Abdallah.

The Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network holds protests every Friday afternoon to stand in solidarity with political prisoners who are fighting for justice.
