Santa Ana, CA – La tensión fue palpable el martes 17 de marzo, cuando residentes de Santa Ana, junto con la Organización de Servicios Comunitarios del Condado de Orange (CSO OC), asistieron a la sesión del Concejo Municipal. Exigieron que los policías asesinos Luis Casillas e Isaac Ibarra fueran despedidos del Departamento de Policía de Santa Ana (SAPD).

El 1 de diciembre de 2024, Noe Rodríguez fue asesinado por la Policía de Santa Ana. Jocelyn Pacheco, de CSO OC, declaró: “Noe Rodríguez estaba desarmado y atravesando una crisis de salud mental. Fue entonces cuando los agentes del SAPD, Luis Casillas e Isaac Ibarra, le dispararon 29 veces. Matthew Compton relató un incidente ocurrido con el agente Ibarra el 18 de febrero, afirmando: “Miembros de CSO, junto con la familia de Noe Rodríguez, se encontraban fuera del Departamento de Policía de Santa Ana grabando videos. Isaac Ibarra salió deliberadamente del departamento, justo hacia donde estábamos parados, en un intento de intimidarnos”.

Compton continuó: “Isaac nos dio un codazo tanto a mí como a otro miembro de CSO; más tarde me golpeó con el hombro y lanzó un golpe falso a otro miembro de CSO. Isaac es una persona sumamente inestable mentalmente y no se le debería permitir formar parte de la fuerza policial, y mucho menos portar armas letales”.

En respuesta a otros comentarios que expresaban inquietudes sobre el comportamiento del agente Ibarra, la alcaldesa Valerie Amezcua—quien recibe fondos de campaña de la Asociación de Agentes de Policía de Santa Ana—declaró lo siguiente: “Le pedí a mi esposo que viera ese video con el agente Ibarra, y sentí mucha pena por él”. Santa Ana, CA – El 26 de febrero, 20 miembros de la comunidad marcharon a lo largo de Civic Center Drive para confrontar al Departamento de Policía de Santa Ana (SAPD). Santa Ana, CA — El sábado 7 de marzo, cerca de 50 miembros de la comunidad se congregaron en el parque El Salvador para el Día Internacional de la Mujer. A pesar de las intensas ráfagas de los vientos de Santa Ana, los participantes mantuvieron el ánimo en alto. Condenaron los numerosos ataques perpetrados contra las mujeres y las personas LGBTQ por parte de la administración Trump.

Rain Mendoza, del comité de inmigración de CSO OC, inició los discursos y habló sobre el impacto del terror de ICE, dijo: “Un ejemplo de esto son las muchas mujeres que han sufrido abortos espontáneos en los centros de detención; mujeres que fueron agredidas sexualmente por personas que se hicieron pasar por agentes de ICE, así como la violación de una detenida nicaragüense en el Centro de Procesamiento de ICE en el sur de Luisiana”.

Rachel Pozos, cofundadora de AlianzaTransLatinx, habló sobre su experiencia viviendo en el Condado de Orange como mujer trans e inmigrante durante los últimos 21 años. “No siempre he sido vista por la sociedad con los ojos de dignidad que merezco. Santa Ana, CA – Tensions rode high Tuesday, March 17, when Santa Ana residents, along with Community Service Organization, Orange County (CSO OC) attended city council. They demanded that killer cops Luis Casillas and Isaac Ibarra be fired from Santa Ana Police Department.

On December 1, 2024, Noe Rodriguez was murdered by Santa Ana Police. Jocelyn Pacheco of CSO OC stated, “Noe Rodriguez was unarmed and experiencing a mental health crisis. When SAPD officers Luis Casillas and Isaac Ibarra shot him 29 times. Bodycam footage shows that they opened fire within 30 seconds of the officers arriving. “

Towards the end of Pacheco’s comment her mic was shut off, despite only being 17 seconds over time. Attendees of the meeting yelled “Let her speak!” and “Shame!”

Matthew Compton talked about an incident that occurred with Officer Ibarra on February 18, stating, “Members of CSO along with the family of Noe Rodriguez were outside Santa Ana Police Department recording videos. Isaac Ibarra intentionally left the department where we were standing in an attempt to intimidate us.”

Compton continued, “Isaac elbowed both myself and another CSO member, then later shoulder-checked me and threw a fake punch at a different CSO member. Isaac is highly mentally unstable and should not be allowed on the force let alone carry lethal weapons.”

In response to more comments with concerns about officer Ibarra’s behavior, Mayor Valerie Amezcua, who receives campaign funding from the Santa Ana Police Officer’s Association, had this to say: “I had my husband watch that video with Officer Ibarra, and I felt really bad for him.” She continued with “I think he behaved in a manner where I was like wow. It’s a hard thing, he was walking to his car.”

Family members impacted by police violence were present, including Noe Rodriguez’s family and the family of Albert Arzola. He was only 19 years old when he was killed by Anaheim police officers on December 6, 2025.

Grace Arzola called out the council, stating: “Valerie and Phil, body language is everything. You guys are more concerned over a charter, and light poles not being fixed than you are with people losing their lives.” Arzola pointed out that the mayor wasn’t paying attention and was slouched over during public comments.

David Pulido, a CSO OC member mentioned “Luis Casillas killed two people within one month. Noe Rodriguez on December 1, 2024 and Henry Gonzalez Jr on January 1, 2025. Casillas was also involved in a brutal beating of a 15-year-old minor Mario Diaz. For all his crimes, SAPD has not fired Luis Casillas. Instead, they moved him from patrol to the crimes against persons division.”

Pulido concluded, “We demand Luis Casillas and Isaac Ibarra be fired before they can kill again! If you do nothing, then the blood will be on your hands. The blood is on the hands of Police Chief Robert Rodriguez. The blood will be on your hands, City Manager Alvaro Nunez. The blood will be on any councilmembers who stand against accountability. That will be your legacy, and we will never let anyone forget that!” The audience applauded and cheered.

As the meeting ended, some council members, like Jonathan Hernandez, showed support for the firing of Luis Casillas and Isaac Ibarra. Others showed their disdain towards Santa Ana residents.

The family of Noe Rodriguez, along with CSO OC and residents of Santa Ana, have been fighting for over a year to seek justice for Noe Rodriguez. CSO members declared that they will not stop until Luis Casillas and Isaac Ibarra are fired and jailed for their crimes.

Coronel huyó del lugar sin llamar a los servicios médicos ni alertar a la policía. La familia de Imanol, incluyendo su madre, Ariana Salvador, asistió a la inauguración del mural. Santa Ana, CA – A large mural depicting Noe Rodriguez now stands in downtown Santa Ana. About 200 feet away, Rodriguez was killed by Santa Ana Police officers Luis Casillas and Isaac Ibarra on December 1, 2024.

Last Sunday, February 22, over 25 residents, including Noe's wife Erika Armenta and their daughters, celebrated the man Noe was in life. They, alongside many other impacted family members, demanded justice for his death. All speakers used Spanish, the primary language spoken by Noe and by many residents of Santa Ana.

Abraham Quintana from Community Service Organization (CSO OC) said, “We are united here today to commemorate Noe’s life in a mural that shows us and the world who he really was, and not the image that our enemies have tried painting. This mural was made possible by months of grassroots organizing and pressure, and especially Erika herself, who has fought tirelessly for justice for Noe Rodriguez. This mural is important not just as a victory, but as a sign that we are in a new stage of that struggle.”

Next to speak was Erika Armenta, the wife of Noe Rodriguez and a member of CSO OC, “Every step that we take, small as it may seem, is a big step towards a great change for our city. We represent those who do not have a voice nor a vote, and who the police are treating as criminals – including us! It has been a very difficult struggle because they are treating us as if we are against public safety.”

Armenta was referring to attacks by the Santa Ana Police Officers Association (SAPOA), which has smeared CSO as being “anti-public safety” while also spreading lies about its members. The SAPOA spends hundreds of thousands of dollars supporting politicians like Mayor Valerie Amezcua along with Councilmembers Phil Bacerra and David Penaloza, and tens of thousands supporting candidates to unseat progressive politicians on the city council. Armenta said, “They have tried to make our struggle impossible, but our strength to go forward is greater!”

Armenta concluded by saying, “Our unity as CSO has built a family. I feel very happy for my daughters: I asked them, ‘What is CSO?’ They told me that for them, it is a family. Because like a family, it supports us, it helps us. And it doesn’t matter that we’re not related by blood because we are in the same fight!”

Armenta also spoke on behalf of the family of Imanol Gonzalez. He was a 19-year-old Chicano from Santa Ana who was struck and killed by drunk, off-duty LAPD Sergeant Carlos Coronel on February 1, 2025. Coronel fled the scene without calling for medical help or alerting police. Imanol’s family, including his mother, Ariana Salvador, joined the mural unveiling. CSO demands that Sergeant Carlos Coronel be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. You can sign a petition to support these demands here.

The family of Albert Arzola also came to support. Albert Arzola was a 19-year-old Chicano who was killed by Anaheim PD on December 6, 2025. Officers profiled Arzola, leapt out of an unmarked car and chased him towards his front porch. One officer shot Arzola in the back and killed him, and police detained his family including small children for hours while they ransacked his home.

Albert Arzola’s mother, Rosie Camacho, said, “I am here to support everyone who has also suffered from police violence. We are not alone! We want justice! And we are going to have justice!” Camacho continued, saying “Whoever wronged us should not keep working for the law, because they already took the life of my son: Albert Arzola. We will not be silenced!” The Arzola family demands the release of all body camera footage from the incident, the release of the autopsy report, and the release of the officers’ names.

The mural of Noe Rodriguez was completed by artists Jose Ortiz and Esteban Ginez, who was present at the unveiling. CSO presented Ginez with a certificate of recognition for his work. Santa Ana City Councilmember Jonathan Hernandez helped commission the artists and secure the mural location. In 2021 Hernandez’s cousin, Brandon Lopez, was chased by Anaheim PD and killed in Santa Ana. Hernandez is a frequent target of Valerie Amezcua, Phil Bacerra and David Penaloza.

CSO closed the event with music by Banda Cuisillos de Arturo Macías, Noe’s favorite music, while Erika Armenta served pozole she prepared for the attendees. The mural symbolizes the dignity of Noe Rodriguez and other victims of police violence. It refuses to let the city forget what happened over one year ago to a 31-year-old working-class Chicano, a kind father and husband struggling to survive as many do in the Southwest.

The mural stands less than a mile from where other Chicanos were recently killed by police: Victor Lopez in 2026 and Miguel Chavez in 2022. But less well known is the racist lynching of Francisco Torres in 1892, only five minutes away. The long legacy of racist violence against Chicanos speaks to the other meaning of Noe’s mural – the struggle for Chicano Liberation continues. But as Erika Armenta said, “our strength to go forward is greater.”

Santa Ana, CA – On Wednesday February 18, Erika Armenta and other members of Community Service Organization Orange County (CSO OC) were holding a press conference outside Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) when they were approached by Officer Isaac Ibarra. Ibarra was one of the officers who shot unarmed 31-year-old Noe Rodriguez on December 1, 2024. Erika Armenta was Noe’s wife. CSO OC members followed Ibarra to confront him for his crimes.

David Pulido said, “This is Isaac Ibarra! He killed a father, a 31-year-old father on December 1, 2024! He shot him 11 times! He and his partner, Luis Casillas, who shot him 18 times! And he doesn’t like that we’re filming him and holding him accountable! You fucking killer! How dare you!”

Isaac Ibarra turned suddenly and lunged towards activists. When they didn’t respond, he changed his tune, saying “Don’t walk behind me! I’m taking that as a threat” and “don’t grab me” even though activists were not touching him and captured the whole incident on video.

CSO OC is demanding that the officers responsible for Noe's death be fired, including Ibarra. They were at the department due to information gathered from a Public Records Act request. Through this request, CSO revealed that Isaac Ibarra and Luis Casillas continue working and have simply been moved to other divisions. Casillas now works in the “Crimes Against Persons Division” and Ibarra works in the “North Area Command Division.”

When Ibarra passed them again, Erika Armenta clutched her daughters closely and said, “May God forgive you: these are the daughters that you made orphans!” and “Look at them closely! You left them without a father! Look at them!”

Matthew Compton said, “You’re a fucking killer dude! You should answer for your damn crimes!”

Isaac Ibarra called the police on activists and lied, claiming that activists pushed him. This lie is contradicted by video footage. In fact, Ibarra pushed activists three times. By the time several patrol cars arrived, Ibarra made one last attempt to provoke a fight, approaching David Pulido within inches of his face and saying that “I’m not at work right now” as an apparent threat.

After the incident Erika Armenta spoke one last time in front of the police station, stating, “I am a member of CSO and we are committed to the fight for police my husband left out accountability.”

Armenta said, “One of the officers who murdered is in the front entrance and passed by me and my two daughters. I believe it was on purpose. Because this department has many exits, not only this front entrance. And he knows us now. We have gone to the city council to speak and put forward our demands for justice for my husband. We are demanding an independent investigation! All they have done is moved the officers to other parts of the department. That is not justice!”

Armenta continued, saying, “This fight does not end here! Recently Santa Ana police killed another man. In a video we saw him with his hands up, and the police have not released the body camera footage. But when the police arrest people with weapons or things like that, the next day they release the footage, at their convenience.”

Armenta referred to the January 28 police killing of 18-year-old Victor Lopez, who was killed in front of his fiancé and one-year-old child in the parking lot of his apartment. Lopez was surrendering to police when he was killed. His family demands the full body camera footage from the incident.

CSO OC continues to demand that Officers Luis Casillas and Isaac Ibarra be fired from Santa Ana PD and that the incident be independently investigated by Santa Ana’s Police Oversight Commission.

Santa Ana, CA – On January 24, nearly 100 community members from across Santa Ana gathered on the corner of Bristol and 1st Streets chanting “Killer ICE, off our streets!” The protesters demanded justice for Alex Pretti, the latest victim of killer federal agents terrorizing Minnesota. They also demanded ICE out of Orange County and an end to deportations across the country.

Diana Terreros of Community Service Organization Orange County (CSO OC) opened the event by stating, “We are here because a Border Patrol agent shot and killed Alex Pretti just this morning in Minnesota. Alex Pretti was a community ICE watcher and an ICU nurse. The agents that gunned him down in broad daylight shot him over ten times like cowards!”

Terreros added, “We are here in solidarity with Minnesota! We are also here because our own city has been under attack by ICE agents since Trump took office and this week they have been on a rampage in Santa Ana and Orange County as a whole! We want them out of our city, out of our county.”

Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) member Matthew Compton stated “In Santa Ana we have seen an increase in ICE raids and guns being drawn on ICE watchers. But when Santa Ana PD shows up, they point their weapons at the people who are fighting back against Trump’s agenda.”

“These killings, all this violence will not simply end! We must put a stop to it! We must organize ourselves and collectively fight back! This administration allows for this violence to happen and denies any sort of accountability. So we the people must demand it! We must fight for it,” urged Rain Mendoza of CSO’s Immigration Committee.

Thomas Crisp of Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE) stated, “When parents are taken from their children by masked thugs, when Keith Porter or Renee Good is shot for attempting to non-violently resist brutality, these are violations of human dignity.” They also called for a moment of silence while candles and flowers were laid out to honor victims of ICE agents.

Drivers honked in support throughout the event and while protesters marched down Bristol Street. Protesters took up all lanes of traffic and carried signs demanding ICE out of Santa Ana and justice for victims of ICE. Chants of “Chinga la migra!” and “Legalization for all!” echoed through adjacent neighborhoods.

The protest was organized by CSO OC with the support of other local groups including FRSO, CLUE, and more.

Santa Ana, CA – On Saturday, February 7, Santa Ana residents gathered to honor the one-month anniversary of the murder of Renee Good by Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) agent Jonathon Ross. The demonstration highlighted other victims murdered by ICE including Keith Porter, Alex Pretti, Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez and Geraldo Lunas Campos.

The crowd gathered on the corner of Bristol and 1st, a busy intersection. They marched across the intersection chanting, “Killer ICE off our streets!” and “Migra fuera de Santa Ana!”

Cars and pedestrians passing by the spirited crowd honked and chanted in support. Santa Ana has been hit with heavy ICE raids since the summer of 2025. Since then, the residents of Santa Ana have been protesting ICE, doing barrio walks to inform the community of their rights, and ICE watching.

The demonstration was put on by Community Service Organization Orange County in response to a call to action by the Legalization for All Network.

Anaheim, CA – Ten family members and several Orange County residents demanded justice for Albert Arzola at Anaheim City Council meeting on January 26. Arzola was chased down and killed by two Anaheim police on December 6, 2025. His family demanded the immediate release of all body camera video, the autopsy report and an independent investigation into the police killing.

Leslie Lopez, Albert Arzola’s cousin said, “Imagine hearing a gunshot outside your home, running out, seeing your child lying there taking their final breath. Would you try to do everything possible to save them? This is exactly what Alberto’s parents tried to do, until they were told to ‘stay the fuck back or we will shoot you too!’”

Lopez’s voice broke as she described how “Albert was dragged like he was an animal onto the sidewalk where they left his lifeless body until four in the morning for the entire community to see. Not only were the people forced to witness his death, but they also cut my cousin’s clothes off and traumatized everyone. I was there, waiting until my baby cousin was finally taken.”

Sergio Pelayoel, Arzola’s cousin, said, “It’s gonna be two months and a week since Albert passed away. I would just like to know why no life-saving measures were taken immediately?” Referring to the edited body cam footage that was released, he stated, “From the moment Albert is hit, it flash forwards to ten minutes later – ten minutes after getting shot – that’s crucial. The body begins to go into shock and starts shutting down. It seems at that point that it’s a cold-blooded murder! It’s not normal to say your coworker killed a man today at his house.”

Grace Arzola, aunt of Albert, tearfully asked, “What mother is forced to go back inside the house – give her son the blessings, cause she knew that was gonna be the last time she saw him breathing – and her last words for him was ‘You’re gonna be OK.’ He was not OK! And neither are none of us OK with what happened! And then you guys handcuffed my brother for hours. He had to watch his lifeless son lay on the floor! What kind of heart do you guys have?”

Family member Ariana Avalos said that in an ACLU study of the most dangerous police departments in the 60 largest U.S. cities, “Anaheim PD is rated ninth out of 60. From 2003 to 2016, there were a total of 33 deaths caused by officers. 29 of those were caused by gunshot wounds. 40% of those individuals killed by police officers were unarmed. 55% of those killings had an officer who had already been involved in at least one other death. So please tell me why we continue to keep these officers on the task force? Please tell the community what tactical approaches have you changed? Because from where I stand, and from where the community stands, we see no change!”

David Pulido, member of CSO OC, said “The police killing of Albert Arzola is not an isolated incident. It belongs to a long pattern of racist killings of Chicanos and other oppressed peoples, not only in Anaheim but in Orange County and the American Southwest.”

Pulido continued, saying “The truth is that our government uses the police to terrorize and oppress our communities. That is why CSO fights for community control of the police. The community has a basic, democratic right to decide on police matters. That means everything from the power to decide on police policies to the power to control the police budget to the power to hire, fire and jail killer cops! Justice for Albert Arzola!”

Santa Ana, CA – On Monday, January 26, over a dozen Santa Ana residents and activists spoke at the city council meeting to defend the Police Oversight Commission (POC). They demand that the city stop attacking the POC and preserve its ability to hold police accountable. Despite being established in 2022, the commission has not reviewed a single complaint due to delays in hiring staff and open attacks on the commission’s legal authority.

David Pulido, member of Community Service Organization Orange County (CSO OC) stated, “We cannot take a single step backward on police oversight under the Trump administration. Last year Trump signed an executive order to train police to be more aggressive, to expand police protections and to weaken oversight.”

Pulido continued, saying, “Last year police-backed Councilmembers Valerie Amezcua, Phil Bacerra and David Penaloza tried to remove pro-accountability Commissioner Amalia Mejia. Then, city staff claimed that they needed to change the commission, so it complied with state law. The changes would strip the power of the commission and its ability to investigate police violence. They claimed it was to avoid lawsuits, but the city was facing at least four lawsuits from families whose loved ones were killed by police: two from the family of Noe Rodriguez, one from the family of Luis Amezcua, and one from the family of Miguel Chavez.”

Pulido concluded, “The approach of Santa Ana to police killings is clear: cover them up, settle lawsuits with the victims, and let killer cops roam our streets. Shame!”

CSO OC members, including Erika Armenta, wife of Noe Rodriguez, held signs that said, “Independent investigations now!” and “The police can’t police themselves!” These referred to the city proposal to have the commission “audit” or review investigations by Santa Ana PD’s own Department of Internal Affairs.

Bulmaro Vicente of the non-profit organization CHISPA said, “Staff’s recommendation to move towards an audit-only model is a step backwards. Instead, the city must preserve the following core powers: retain independent investigative authority, including the ability to investigate serious and deadly use of force, maintain the commission’s ability to make disciplinary recommendations based on the findings of those investigations,” among other powers.

CSO OC member Matthew Compton said, “This commission was established due to community concerns about SAPD misconduct. Those concerns and the misconduct still remain.”

Compton went on to describe the in-custody death of Freddie Washington on January 16, 2025. “SAPD officers beat Freddie and treated him like he was less than human.” Despite Public Records Act requests for the full body camera videos of all officers involved, Santa Ana PD has delayed the release for months.

Compton said, “In the era of Trump, where federal and local police violence is being uplifted, we must protect police oversight, since SAPD refuses to protect residents of Santa Ana.”

Abraham Quintana, member of CSO OC, said, “We cannot gut the oversight powers before they’ve even had a chance to be tested!” He added, “Over the last year we have seen Santa Ana PD violate reporting standards for military equipment usage, we’ve seen them sign agreements with FLOCK for automatic license plate readers that lead to ICE detainments, and all while the city paid out millions in lawsuits for police misconduct. Let’s also not forget that they withheld 42 ICE notifications over the summer and are likely still not sharing that kind of information with the public. We need community control of the police!”

Santa Ana, CA – En la brumosa mañana de jueves, 12 activistas y residentes del condado de Orange se reunieron frente al Tribunal Superior del Condado de Orange para exigir justicia para Imanol González, un joven residente de Santa Ana quien fue atropellado y asesinado por el sargento Carlos Coronel, agente de policía de Los Ángeles fuera de servicio, el 1 de febrero de 2025.

El primero en hablar fue David Pulido, miembro de la Organización de Servicio Comunitario del Condado de Orange (CSO OC), quien declaró: “Carlos Coronel atropelló a Imanol con su camioneta y huyó. Asistentes incluyeron miembros de CSO OC, miembros de Guerrero Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle (FFPS) y Christine López Ediss, tía de Albert Arzola, quien fue asesinado por un agente de policía de Anaheim el 6 de diciembre de 2025.

Anaheim, CA – Las primeras filas en la cámara del Consejo de la Ciudad de Anaheim fueron ocupadas por la familia de Albert Arzola el martes 13 de enero. Portaban carteles exigiendo “Justicia para Albert Arzola”, quien tenía 19 años cuando fue emboscado por dos policías del Departamento de Policía de Anaheim, recibió un disparo por la espalda y murió el 6 de diciembre de 2025.

Christine Lopez Ediss dijo, “Albert es mi sobrino y fue amado por muchos. Se graduó de la preparatoria Katella y trabajaba en la ciudad que amaba: Anaheim. Tenía un futuro brillante por delante. Eso se lo robaron a Albert, su familia y a la comunidad de Anaheim. ¡No nos quedaremos callados ante el acto sin sentido cometido por un policía de la unidad de pandillas!”

Sergio Pelayo, primo de Albert Arzola dijo, “Estoy aquí para exigir la versión sin editar de lo que pasó ese día, el 6 de diciembre. Ya ha pasado más de un mes. Solo tenemos un clip de 30 segundos de lo ocurrido. Que simplemente liberen la autopsia, porque la familia quiere saber dónde y cómo murió Albert. También queremos saber el nombre del oficial. ¡O sea, no hay razón para esconderlo!”

La familia de Albert gritó, “¡Ustedes están ocultando cosas!”

Grace Arzola, otra tía de Albert Arzola, comentó lo siguiente del Oficial de Información Pública, Matt Sutter: “Él dijo que la policía actuó por el bien del público. ¡Eso es algo que tiene que determinar el público! No el Oficial de Información Pública. Y el público solo lo puede determinar cuándo publiquen el video completo sin editar. ¡Deja que decida si la policía actuó con su mejor interés!”

Vern Nelson, residente de Anaheim y escritor del Blog Orange Juice, también comentó sobre el asesinato por la policía. Nelson declaró que cuando un agente de la unidad de pandilla mata a una persona, “por semanas o meses, andarán molestando a la familia. Eso me parece muy familiar porque mi esposa Donna tenía un hijo que fue asesinado en 2012 – Joel Acevedo. ¡La misma cosa le pasó a ella! Acosan a la familia. Lucen linternas tras las ventanas del hogar para intimidarlos, para que no hablen.” Joel Acevedo fue asesinado por el agente del Departamento de Policía de Anaheim, Kelly Phillips, el 22 de julio de 2012. Ese año, la policía de Anaheim mató a siete chicanos, incluyendo a Manuel Díaz la noche antes de que mataran a Joel.

Grace Arzola también describió acoso similar, diciendo, “Mi mamá tiene 77 años. La policía detuvo a mi hermano por una ‘luz trasera rota’. Le pedimos a un amigo de la familia que viniera a arreglar la luz. ¡Cinco policías de Departamento de Policía de Anaheim se acercaron al amigo que estaba ayudando a mi mamá anciana a arreglar la luz y lo acusaron de robar el carro! Cinco. Policías. Esto es inaceptable y tiene que parar.”

La familia fue acompañada por tres miembros de la Organización de Servicio Comunitario, Condado Orange (CSO OC), entre ellos Erika Armenta, cuyo esposo Noe Rodriguez fue asesinado por el Departamento de Policía de Santa Ana el 1 de diciembre de 2024.

La miembro de CSO OC Carina Munoz dijo que “el Departamento de Policía de Anaheim ha sido clasificado en el noveno lugar entre las 60 ciudades más grandes de los EE.UU. en la tasa de muertes involucrando a policías durante arrestos, y aun así no se ha hecho nada. Por esta falta de acción, estos policías del Departamento de Policía de Anaheim son libres para hacer viudas a las mujeres, hacer que los padres pierdan a sus hijos antes que a ellos mismos, lo cual no es el orden natural de las cosas, que hermanos se pierdan mucho antes de su tiempo, y que mejores amigos pierdan al único hombro en que apoyarse. ¡Me avergüenzo de Anaheim por permitir otra vez que muera un joven, y por hacer parecer que Albert se lo merecía!”

Graze Arzola afirmó, “¡No nos vamos a ir! ¡Vamos a presentarnos en cada reunión hasta que obtengamos justicia para él! ¡No nos vamos a ir!”

Santa Ana, CA – On January 20, over 150 people packed into the street in front of the Santa Ana Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office to protest a year under Trump. The protest, organized by Community Service Organization Orange County (CSO OC), brought together organizers from all over Orange County. The energy in the crowd grew as they shouted chants of “ICE out of Santa Ana! ICE out of OC!” and “Trump! Escucha! Estamos en la lucha!”

Rain Mendoza from CSO OC’s Immigration Committee kicked off the protest by exclaiming “One year of racist ICE raids. One year of expanding imperialist wars. One year of the big bullshit bill that hurt the working class. And one year of resistance here in Orange County and all over the country!” She added “We must build the movement, the united front against the Trump administration!”

Diana Terreros, another member of CSO OC’s Immigration Committee, stated, “In just one year, we have seen families ripped apart in the form of both deportations and killings. Shame! We have seen Chicanos fighting back against those deportations brutalized by both local and federal law enforcement and slapped with federal charges simply for protesting. Shame! We have seen Palestinians continue to be killed every day with the backing of U.S. resources. Shame! We have seen the bombing of Venezuela and a kidnapping of their president in an attempt to control their oil reserves. Shame!”

Terreros continued, “While all of these terrible things are being done by this administration, I also see the people rising up to say no more! The people demanding that our sell-out council members Mayor Amezcua, Phil Bacerra and David Penaloza stand with us and actually do something to protect our largely immigrant city. I also see Santaneros in the streets protesting, ICE watching, and educating people on their rights. I see people wanting to help in any way they can.”

Rachel Pozos from Alianza Translatinx talked about the important work her organization is doing, stating, “being on the front lines here in Santa Ana fighting for trans liberation and trans rights under this administration that is trying to kill trans people through legislation and other methods.”

Abraham Quintana from Freedom Road Socialist Organization declared ”while many cities like Minneapolis and Chicago are pushing back, we know we need a united national movement, we need a working-class revolution to put an end to capitalism, the system that puts profit before people!“

The crowd took to the streets, marching through downtown with chants of “Killer ICE! Off our streets!” and “SAPD, KKK, I-C-E they’re all the same!” echoing through the city. Protesters raised signs that reflected many of the issues heightened by the Trump administration such as demanding hands off of immigrants, calling for justice for Renee Good, and stopping the U.S.’s war on Venezuela. Pedestrians in the busy downtown area watched and cheered on the protesters as they marched by.

After arriving at Sasscer Park, Emma Gottfried from CSO OC’s Police Accountability Committee started by saying “Our system already protects killer cops so heavily and Trump’s executive orders promises legal help to officers for their actions, emboldening cops to brutalize us and attack the people’s movements. We can’t let police be used to collaborate with ICE in our city, a sanctuary city!”

Gottfried added, “The people who live in our communities have a democratic right to decide on how the police run in our city. Under Trump, that right is more important than ever.”

A member of the Orange County Democratic Socialists of America, rallied the crowd by stating ”despite the best efforts of the billionaire ruling class, to crush the people's resistance, we choose to fight!” She encouraged people to get involved in organizations.

A speaker from the International League of Peoples Struggle (ILPS) SoCal told the crowd, “ICE has been kidnapping migrants off the streets, from their homes, from their workplaces. ICE has violently killed Renee Good and many more. Dozens are dying in detention centers from neglect and inhumane conditions.” They emphasized that the ruling class blames those “who come here for a better life, to escape the crises that the system has created in the first place! They want us to feel scared, to be continued to be exploited but we know the solution to this crisis! It is up to us to organize and build collective power!”

This protest was endorsed by and included organizers from OC DSA, Guerrero FFPS, Alianza Translatinx, FRSO OC, ILPS SoCal, and Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice.

Santa Ana, CA – On a misty Thursday morning, 12 activists and residents of Orange County met outside the OC Superior Court to demand justice for Imanol Gonzalez, a young Santa Ana resident who was struck and killed by off-duty LAPD Sergeant Carlos Coronel on February 1, 2025.

First to speak was David Pulido, member of Community Service Organization, Orange County (CSO OC) who stated, “Carlos Coronel struck Imanol with his truck and fled the scene. On that day Coronel did not call for an ambulance. He did not call Tustin PD or LAPD to report an accident. Instead, he fled the scene and left Imanol to die alone on the street.”

Pulido continued, “The next day, Carlos told his girlfriend to avoid the road where he struck Imanol. He searched the internet for fatal hit-and-run accidents in Tustin, the city where he struck Imanol. These are not the actions of an innocent man!”

In the middle of the speech, a Santa Ana PD cruiser approached protesters and rolled its window down. People began to chant, “Jail killer cops! Jail killer cops!” until the cruiser rolled away.

Jocelyn Pacheco, another member of CSO OC’s Police Accountability Committee stated, “Today we were supposed to be inside this courtroom. Today was supposed to be another step towards justice for Imanol. But instead, today’s hearing was cancelled. Once again, justice is delayed. Once again, this family is told to wait: wait for accountability and wait for answers while the pain drags on.”

Pacheco continued, “Justice delayed is justice denied! We are here to say that Imanol’s life mattered. His family deserves answers, and we will not stay silent while accountability is pushed further and further away. We demand OC Superior Court judge Michael Murray move this case forward to hold this killer cop accountable!”

People chanted, “¡Justicia para Imanol Gonzalez!” and “¡Sin justicia no hay paz!” Attendees included members of CSO OC, members of Guerrero Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle (FFPS), and Christine Lopez Ediss, aunt of Albert Arzola, who was killed by an Anaheim PD officer on December 6, 2025.

Before closing the rally, people gathered signatures for a petition created by Imanol’s dear friend, Ashley Avellaneda, urging that Carlos Coronel face the consequences of his crimes.

Anaheim, CA – The front rows of Anaheim City Council chamber were filled with Albert Arzola’s family on Tuesday, January 13. They held signs demanding, “Justice for Albert Arzola,” who was only 19 years old when he was ambushed by two Anaheim PD officers, shot in the back and killed on December 6, 2025.

Christine Lopez Ediss said, “Albert is my nephew and was loved by so many. He graduated from Katella High School and was working in the city he loved: Anaheim. He had a bright future ahead. That was stolen from Albert, his family, and the Anaheim community. We will not remain silent about the senseless act by a gang unit officer!”

Sergio Pelayo, Albert Arzola’s cousin, said “I’m here to advocate for the unedited version of what happened that day on December 6. It’s been over a month now. We only have a 30 second clip from what happened. Just release the autopsy as people in the family would like to know where and how Albert died. We would also like to know the name of the officer. I mean, no need to hide!”

Albert’s family shouted, “You guys are hiding things!”

Grace Arzola, another of Albert Arzola’s aunts, said this about Public Information Officer Matt Sutter: “He said that the police acted in the public’s best interest. That’s something that the public has to determine! Not the Public Information Officer. They can only do this when you guys release the full, unedited video. Let them decide if the police acted in their best interest!”

Vern Nelson, Anaheim resident and writer of the Orange Juice Blog, also spoke on the police killing. Nelson stated that when gang unit officers kill someone, “for weeks or months they’ll go around harassing the family. That’s familiar to me because my wife Donna had a son who was killed in 2012 – Joel Acevedo. The same exact thing happened to her! They harass the family. They shine lights into their place every day to intimidate them, so they don’t speak out.” Joel Acevedo was killed by Anaheim PD officer Kelly Phillips on July 22, 2012. That year Anaheim PD killed seven Chicanos, including Manuel Diaz the night before Joel was killed.

Grace Arzola also described similar harassment, saying “My mom is 77 years old. The police stopped my brother for a ‘broken taillight’. We asked a family friend to come and fix the taillight. Five Anaheim PD officers pulled up on a family friend that was helping my elderly mom fix a broken taillight and accused him of stealing the car! Five. Officers. This is unacceptable and it needs to stop.”

The family was joined by three members of Community Service Organization, Orange County (CSO OC), including Erika Armenta, whose husband Noe Rodriguez was killed by Santa Ana PD on December 1, 2024.

CSO OC member Carina Munoz said that “Anaheim PD has been ranked ninth out of the 60 largest U.S. cities on the rate of officer-involved deaths during arrests, and yet nothing has been done. Because of the lack of action, these Anaheim PD officers are allowed to make women widows, parents lose their children before themselves, which is not the natural order of things, siblings lose each other way before their time, and best friends lose their only shoulder to lay on. I am ashamed of Anaheim for once again letting a young person die, and for making it seem like Albert deserved it!”

Graze Arzola stated, “We are not going away! We will show up to every meeting until we get justice for him! We are not going away!”

Santa Ana, CA – On Friday, January 9, about 300 protesters chanted “Justice for Renee Good” and “ICE out of Santa Ana” at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Field Office on Civic Center. They held a spray painted banner that read “Fuck ICE!” and signs reading “We demand justice!”

This site has been one of struggle where protesters have tried to block federal vans from exiting in the past year. As protesters started chanting, federal agents attempted to intimidate the crowd using their PA system, but the protesters stood their ground in front of the building chanting.

Diana Terreros with Community Service Organization Orange County’s (CSO OC) Immigration Committee kicked off the protest stating “We are here because Trump has unleashed his federal agents on our neighborhoods for his mass deportation campaign and they continue to escalate. Last year they sent the National Guard out in an attempt to quell protests demanding ICE out of our cities. They’ve pulled guns on ICE watchers and brutalized the community members they are detaining. And now in the last week alone, there have been four shootings by federal agents.”

Terreros added “And this is just in the last couple of days! In 2025, over 30 people died at the hands of ICE.”

Rain Mendoza of CSO OC’s Immigration Committee added, “Renee Good is a hero to her community and should be alive today! Meanwhile, her three children have now lost a parent and her wife has lost a spouse, the disgusting worm Jonathon Ross is at home with his family according to disgraced Department of Homeland Secretary Kristi Noem. Shame! We demand the arrest of Jonathon Ross. We demand an end to deportations!”

A member of ICE out of Lake Forest reminded the crowd, “When we’re met with threats and intimidation, we do what politics and local governments have failed to do. We respond. We work together to build the future we want to see. One that we can be proud of. One that can take care of everyone.”

Reverend Oona Casanova with Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE Justice) told the crowd, “Just one week ago, over New Years Eve celebrations, an off-duty ICE agent shot and killed Keith Porter in Northridge. Bringing the total number of death or injury to nearly a dozen just in the Los Angeles area alone. And this is why we are here today. To speak up, to stand out, and to cry out for justice.”

The protesters chanted “Justice for Keith Porter!”

The crowd of protesters then took the streets to march, with a banner reading “Legalization for all of the undocumented!” and “Community control of the police!” leading the way. Protesters angrily chanted “Jonathan Ross! Lock him up!” The crowd marched down 1st Street, taking up all lanes of traffic. They were met with honks of support and even a school bus full of young Chicanos joining in on the chants.

Once protesters returned to the federal building, a member of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) exclaimed, “No politician is coming to save us! Shame! The supreme court is not coming to save us! Shame! No law enforcement is coming to save us! Shame!”

David Pulido of CSO OC’s Police Accountability Committee recalled the Santa Ana Police Department’s (SAPD) actions during Trump’s mass deportation campaign stating, “SAPD helped ICE! They pushed people back and let vans leave the federal building to kidnap our families!” He added, “And look around! How did SAPD respond when they learned that the people would demand justice for the death of Renee Nicole Good? They closed the streets! They put up the barricades! They let ICE hide! That is why our committee fights for community control of the police.”

Matthew Compton of Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) stated “This killing is a massive escalation of repression against those of us who fight back against this racist Trump administration.” He offered a solution, “That is why we must get rid of this system through revolution and implement socialism. Socialism is a system that will give power to the multinational working class. Socialism and revolution is the only way forward.”

The protest was organized by CSO OC and endorsed by CLUE Justice, ICE out of Lake Forest, FRSO, DSA, and OC Environmental Justice.

CSO OC will be hosting another protest on January 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the federal building for Trump's one-year anniversary in office to demand an end to deportations.
