On the 16th anniversary of the martyrdom of the Palestinian, Arab and international leader, Comrade Abu Ali Mustafa, the General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, we reaffirm our commitment to fulfill his vision of the liberation of Palestine, embodied by the martyr since he first joined the ranks of the national liberation movement. He marched on the road of the martyr without hesitation or reluctance. His burning spirit, conscious will, and firm conviction in his people, the justice of their cause and great hope for victory were a catalyst and guide throughout his years of struggle.

He recognized that the nature of the struggle against the Zionist invasion of our Arab homeland and Palestine in particular requires the concerted efforts of all national, organized, collective and conscious forces on the field of struggle. This realization led him to first join the ranks of the Arab Nationalist Movement and then to become a leader in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine after contributing to its founding.

Throughout his life of struggle, the great martyr Abu Ali Mustafa represented values, lessons and principles that deserve to be highlighted, especially amid the current Palestinian reality with all of its problems, crises and complexities:

First, the awareness and culture on which Abu Ali Mustafa relied to formulate his own understanding. He never stepped back from his will to read, learn and develop his knowledge and education, building up his ever-evolving consciousness and developing politics and culture in the service of national liberation. Valuing the issue of culture and knowledge amid our reality comes to confront all attempts to falsify history, obscure reality and develop an atmosphere of despair, frustration, destructiveness and defeatism.

Second, for him, the struggle was an approach to life. This was reflected in his behavior, his words and his actions. The struggle was not linked to him by a title, location, rank, position, decree or ritual. He was connected with his people in all their various locations, inside and outside Palestine, and their forms of struggle – military, political, organizational and popular. He was among his people through all stations of his life, as he was at the moment of his martyrdom.

These forms of struggle and their exercise must be on the agenda of all political forces, so we can employ the best of all forms of struggle – political, cultural, military, popular, media and others – without pitting them against the other, in order to serve our vision and goals of national liberation.

Third, holding fast to the strategic goal of the Palestinian national struggle, the liberation of all of the land of Palestine, and not to allow it to be truncated in the name of “tactics,” but to serve this goal and walk on this path.

Today, after a quarter of a century of negotiations and the Oslo Accords with the Zionist enemy, the futility and catastrophic damage to our rights, our cause, and the unity of our people, of the road of conciliation is clear. It is necessary to cast away all illusions that there is any way forward in this “process” for a real Palestinian state, self-determination and return. Instead, we must break firmly with this path and all of the political and economic consequences and reject any pressure to return to negotiations, and confront any attempt to spread illusions about the possibility of achieving the goals of the Palestinian people through the trading of these schemes and projects. This includes the so-called “deal of the century” or “regional solution.” The alternative is to work seriously to restore the Palestinian national liberation movement, end division and build Palestinian national unity.

Fourth, the unity of the Palestinian national struggle means upgrading the role and function of the tool of that struggle through the rehabilitation and rebuilding of the Palestine Liberation Organization with a program, charter, moral and material base to bring together the energies and abilities of the Palestinian people.

Loyalty to the martyr Abu Ali and all of the martyr who struggled for the PLO, its program and national role, defending the unity of its representation, means the necessity of upholding the national agreements made in Beirut and completing the work of the preparatory committee to ensure the organizing of a true national unity council outside Palestine. This also means rebuilding the institutions of the PLO on a national, democratic, united and correct basis with pluralism and democracy in its institutions and in all matters of national affairs.

Glory to the martyr and the leader, Comrade Abu Ali Mustafa!

We pledge to continue on the path of struggle to achieve the goals of our people to liberation and return.

Victory is inevitable!

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine organized a rally outside the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza City on October 25 in support of imprisoned Comrade Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, held in French prisons for 32 years. Members of the leadership of the Front, the Prisoners Commission, the campaign in solidarity with Ahmad Sa’adat, political parties and the families of the prisoners and martyrs joined in the rally to demand Abdallah’s freedom.

Comrade Haneen Ammar opened the event with a message from the imprisoned General Secretary of the PFLP, Comrade Ahmad Sa’adat. The message emphasized that supporting the struggle of the prisoners for freedom is part and parcel of the struggle for the freedom of Georges Abdallah. Sa’adat denounced the distortion of reality by the dominant powers of imperialism and globalization, in which the freedom fighter is labeled a terrorist, and the victim labeled a killer.

Sa’adat said that the efforts to free Georges Abdallah will secure a victory not only for him but for all oppressed peoples, prisoners of conscience and victims of torture, as a triumph of humanity and the Palestinian struggle for freedom. He saluted the strugglers in Palestine, Lebanon and everywhere that people are struggling in the face of oppression, injustice and tyranny.

Comrade Allam Kaabi, leader of the Front’s Prisoners Commission in the Gaza Strip, denounced the continuing imprisonment of Abdallah by the French state that today enters its 33rd year. He demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Abdallah and vowed that all means of pressure for his release are legitimate. Kaabi noted that Abdallah is a fighter for freedom and justice who has dedicated his life to confronting imperialism and the Zionist colonial project with resistance. He is a figure of historical weight in the Palestinian, Arab and international struggle, said Kaabi, noting that he retains his strong commitment to radical analysis and resistance and that this is one reason he remains imprisoned today by the French state.

Kaabi said that the cause of Abdallah is closely linked to the cause of thousands of Palestinian prisoners suffering within occupation prisons, saying that the two issues cannot be separated. He denounced the racist laws that transform the freedom fighter Georges Abdallah into a ‘terrorist,’ noting that they are the same laws that label Palestinian prisoners as ‘terrorists.’ He called upon the Lebanese state to take up its responsibility and pressure seriously for the release of Georges Abdallah. He urged the continuation of the movement to free Georges Abdallah with pressure on the French state, especially in Palestine, as part of the movement to support the brave prisoners in Zionist jails.

He concluded by pledging coordination between Palestinian, Arab and international revolutionary forces to pressure together for his release.

The event included the burning photos of the three rulers most complicit in the imprisonment of Georges Abdallah and his fellow Palestinian prisoners, French President Francois Hollande, US President Barack Obama and Zionist prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Comrade Khalida Jarrar, deputy in the Palestinian Legislative Council and leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, announced on September 16 that the occupation’s order to expel her to the city of Jericho effectively ended the previous day after the military court revised the expulsion order from six months to one month, which then expired.

Jarrar spoke at a press conference in the permanent solidarity tent she erected in the yard of the Palestinian Legislative Council in Ramallah, in protest as she refused to abide by the expulsion order. She immediately moved to the protest tent on August 20 after the order was delivered by over 50 armed occupation soldiers invadint her Ramallah home.

Jarrar said that the rejection of the occupation’s order, the public pressure campaign and the international solidarity movement around her case forced the occupier to back down and yield to these pressures. She saluted all of the international parliamentarians and organizations who rejected the expulsion order and supported her rejection of the unjust action, noting the widespread recognition of the illegitimate and illegal order by Arab and international forces.

Omar Nazzal read a statement on behalf of the Committee in Solidarity with Khalida Jarrar, noting that dozens of delegations have flocked to the protest tent, organized sit-ins at the UN building, and engaged in a public and media campaign at the Palestinian and international levels.

The Committee considers this to be a victory for the Palestinian national cause, not simply Khalida Jarrar as an individual said Nazzal, noting that there is popular strength and willpower confronting the occupier.

PFLP mass march and military rally in Gaza upholds resistance, salutes Palestinian steadfastness

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in Gaza City organized a mass rally and military march with thousands of cadres, members and supporters of the Front and hundreds of fighters with the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades. The event came in celebration of the victory of the Palestinian people in Gaza in the recent aggression, and in commemoration of the 13th anniversary of the assassination of Abu Ali Mustafa, General Secretary of the PFLP, on August 27, 2001, by a US-made missile fired by the Zionist airforce into his Ramallah office.

Marchers carried Palestinian flags, PFLP banners and resistance images from the region and around the world, saluting the Lebanese resistance and Latin American nations and people who stood consistently with Palestine.

Comrade Jamil Mizher, member of the Political Bureau and leader of the PFLP’s branch in Gaza, saluted the masses of the Palestinian people who defined the meaning of resistance and struggle as they confronted the Zionist war machine, its genocidal massacres and systematic destruction, killing and displacement of thousands.

He saluted the Palestinian people on behalf of imprisoned General Secretary Comrade Ahmad Sa’adat, the Deputy General Secretary, Abu Ahmad Fouad, and Comrade Khalida Jarrar, the PFLP leader and member of Parliament resisting the unjust expulsion order against her in Ramallah.

Mizher said that the “legendary steadfastness of our people and their valiant resistance which continued for 51 days, has made a strategic change in the Arab-Zionist struggle and has raised our political and military approach to a new level, despite the siege and the destruction of the Zionist aggression by land, air and sea.”

He saluted the over 2143 martyrs whose blood was shed on the road to victory, led by the leaders Mohammed Abu Shamala, Raed al-Attar, Mohammed Barhoum, Daniel Mansour, Salah Abu Hassanein, Shaaban Dahdouh, Zakaria Abu Daqqa, and comrade fighters of the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, Mahmoud Osama Abbas Abu Omrein and Abdul Rahman Hadayed. “The arms of the resistance will remain directed at the occupation and any attempts to remove them will fail and will not succeed,” said Mizher.

He pointed to the important role of the prisoners in the Israeli jails, always on the front lines confronting the occupier, pledging to dedicate all efforts and resources to free them from the occupier’s prisons.

He noted that this achievement “after 51 days of pain and pride…comes alongside the memory of the 13th anniversary of the martyrdom of…Comrade Abu Ali Mustafa. Today, we emphasize that the Palestinian people remain committed to the principles and objectives to which he dedicated his life to achieve, and for which he paid dearly. He believed…in the inevitability of victory over the criminal Zionist enemy and that the path of resistance is the only way to sweep the occupier from every inch of our land.”

He saluted growing international solidarity with Palestine around the world, saluting those who “filled squares in Europe, North America, Latin America..and South Africa,” saluting the governments of Latin American nations, including Venezuela, Cuba, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Bolivia, who took official actions to break with the occupier.

Mizher noted that “This battle fought in the Gaza Strip was a battle of the Palestinian people everywhere under the slogan of the unity of the land, the people and the cause, in Gaza, Jerusalem, Ramallah, Haifa, al-Khalil, the Galilee, and every village and every camp, in the homeland and in diaspora, a struggle for freedom, independence and return…on the road to the strategic solution, the establishment of a democratic Palestine on the entire Palestinian national soil.”

Mizher emphasized, in conclusion, that this is a historic opportunity, created by the sacrifices, steadfastness and courageous resistance of our people, and the only option is to march forward, with national unity and resistance, to defeat the occupier.

Comrade Abu Jamal of the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades spoke, urging the importance of the unified resistance front in achieving “the victory in this battle as a milestone on the path to liberation.” The Brigades emphasized that the resistance is ready for any battle and that it will not be broken and will continue, so long as the enemy remains on Palestinian land.

Abu Jamal noted that the Brigades lack faith in the concept of truce or ceasefire, and will never cease resisting until the Zionist occupation is uprooted.

He saluted the fighters who showed such bravery and caused severe losses to the occupation special forces, in Rafah, Gaza, Beit Hanoun, Shujai’ya, Khan Younis and throughout the Strip. The Brigades saluted the brave Palestinian people for their steadfastness, and all the people of the world who stood with the just Palestinian cause.

PFLP salutes the steadfastness of our people and the valiant resistance

On the occasion of the ceasefire in Gaza, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine extends its strongest salutes to the resilient Palestinian masses, to the steadfast resistance factions, and to the heroic and courageous resistance fighters who fought with unmatched courage to repel the aggression and defeat its objectives, who have elevated the Palestinian cause as a national liberation struggle and who protect our national rights which the occupier has made every attempt to liquidate over the previous years.

The Resistance protects and defends the dignity of our people, which has never faltered despite the massive assault of the occupier, the vast destruction of buildings and institutions, the killing and wounding of thousands of our people, and the suffering and displacement of hundreds of thousands of our people.

The PFLP emphasizes the role of the resistance in the battlefield in realizing these achievements, and the cohesion between the resistance and the masses of the people. We call for the consolidation and development of this resistance unity, to achieve true national unity aside from factional rivalries, which was and remains a wedge to weaken our people and fragment their energies and abilities. A leadership delegation of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine continued its visits to neighborhoods and villages hit hard by the Zionist assault on the Gaza Strip on Saturday, August 16. The delegation, including members of the Political Bureau and Central Committee, visited Khan Younis and villages and towns in the eastern regions, including Khuza’a, and Abasan, and homes that were destroyed by the occupation forces, including Abu Taama and Abu Daqqah homes east of Khan Younis.

The delegation also met with families of the martyrs in the area, including the familes of the martyrs Ra’afat Shahin, Raafat Zourob, Farid Ahmed, Ahmed Ahmed, Nael Abu Libdeh, Anas Abu Shamala and many others. and also visited the families of martyrs and wounded people in Rafah.Delegation members witnessed the scope of the destruction of houses, farms, agricultural land and infrastructure. Many people of the area relayed their and their families’ experience of death and destruction in the indiscriminate shelling by occupation forces, which was focused on the homes and people in the eastern neighborhoods and towns of the Gaza Strip.

Continuing its visits, the delegation travelled to Zeitoun neighborhood, Bureij, and Shujaiya, saying that “if one wants to know the true face of the enemy, visit Shujaiya neighborhood – these areas reflect the clear truth of its nature.”

The delegation commended the steadfastness and heroism of the brave resistance that confronted the killing machines, tanks and soldiers of the enemy, inflicting many losses. The people of these villages suffered greatly from the occupation’s brutal shelling and missiles on the areas, displacing families, and killing and wounding many. They said that this massive devastation and brutal crimes will only lead Palestinians to continue to stand fast to confront the colonizer and defeat this criminal enemy.

The Front pledged to stand with and work actively to ensure the homes and infrastructure of the area are rebuilt, and to work with the relevant authorities to ensure the restoration of electricity, water and other necessities of life.

They conveyed the greetings of the Political Bureau, including imprisoned General Secretary Comrade Ahmad Sa’adat, his deputy, Abu Ahmad Fouad, to the heroic masses of the Palestinian people and the families who have lost loved ones, suffered injuries, are displaced, whose homes are destroyed, saluting their legendary steadfastness in the face of a genocidal war machine directed at the great Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine saluted proudly the heroic military resistance of the Palestinian people east of Rafah, leading to the deaths of many soldiers and reports of the capture of an officer, confirming that the continued Zionist crimes against the people of Gaza, the latest being the massacre of dozens of people in Rafah, will not pass in vain, and that the blood of the martyrs of our people will remain a beacon that illuminates our path to liberation.

The criminal and brutal Zionist enemy intended in advance to target the city of Rafah through massive assaults on the city since yesterday, committing open atrocities against our people without seeing any need to justify its continuous aggression since its occupation began on the land of Palestine. The barbaric war machine’s crimes during the continued assault on Gaza for over 26 days confirms its defeat by the resistance strikes as it has resorted instead to bloody massacres against civilians, innocent women, men, children and elders in indiscriminate and massive bombing and shelling. The Front also reiterated the resistance’s confirmation that the clash with invading occupation soldiers took place before the beginning of the humanitarian ceasefire.

The statement relates the Israeli solider was captured “during the recent operation carried out by the Brigades east of At Tuffah neighborhood, east of Gaza City, which killed 14 soldiers and wounded more than 50, including the commander of the Golani Brigades.” The Golani Brigade is an Israeli infantry group that is well known for committing war crimes.

The statement from the Ezzedeen Al Qassam Brigades also noted, “This operation came as a response of killing more than 480 Palestinian civilians and wounded more than 3200 due to Israeli attacks on Gaza residential districts.”

On July 21 Ezzedeen Al Qassam Brigades told of a another successful battle. “The Israeli patrol was ambushed by Al Qassam members in Ash Shuja’iya neighborhood east of Gaza city, the Qassam members clashed with them from zero point, killing 10 soldiers and wounding 30 others.”

Another resistance group that has been battling the Israeli assault on Gaza is the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and its armed wing the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades. According to a statement from the PFLP, on July 20 members of the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades “infiltrated and engaged occupation forces at the Rafah airport area and confronted them with a variety of weapons including four ‘107’ type missiles,” and they targeted “enemy artillery east of Shuja’iya at 12:45 a.m.”

Also on July 20, Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah, of Lebanon, pledged to stand with the Palestinian and the people of Gaza. Al –Manar News reports, “In a phone call with Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal, Sayyed Nasrallah said Hezbollah and the Lebanese resistance will support the Palestinian Intifada and resistance, with all their hearts, willpower, hope and destiny.”

Shuja’iya massacre will stain the hands of all who are silent and complicit

The Zionist enemy carried out a horrific massacre today against the civilians of Shuja’iya neighborhood in eastern Gaza City, targeting homes with mortars, tanks, missiles and aircraft, killing dozens of martyrs and wounding hundreds, where many remain under the rubble of their destroyed homes amid a barrage of shells and rockets.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine pledged that the blood of the martyrs of the Shuja’iya massacre, of the war crimes and genocide committed by land, air and sea in every inch of Gaza against civilians in their homes, children, women, and the elderly, will not be wasted, and that the enemy will never be able to break the will and steadfastness of our people and their valiant resistance which will fight and resist this cowardly and criminal enemy until the last breath.

The Front noted that the Zionist criminal occupation has brought death, destruction and devastation to our neighborhoods, camps and cities, saying that the occupation forces were incapable of stopping the resistance or its qualitative strikes against occupation forces, and have expressed their cowardice by targeting innocent civilians in their homes.

The Front saluted the brave resisters in all the Palestinian military organizations who are willing to sacrifice in order to block the progress of the occupation forces, for our people to survive and confront the war machine, and praised its ongoing painful strikes to the enemy.

Furthermore, the Front emphasized that the international community is responsible for the crimes against our people in Gaza with its ongoing military, financial, and political support to the occupation entity, providing it with political cover to commit crimes against our people.

The Front demanded that Palestinian Authority officials and spokespeople stop engaging in the language of defeatism and to instead respect the Palestinian popular mood, which shouts that no voice is louder than the voice of the resistance. Our legitimate resistance is a point of pride for all of our people; we are convinced that we will win, and we will mend our wounds, we will rise from the rubble and the ruins to rebuild our homes again.

The Front saluted with pride the steadfast people in Gaza from Rafah to Beit Hanoun who have suffered so much pain and yet refuse to concede to the threats of the occupation. People with such steadfastness will inevitably triumph and no war machine will be able to defeat them or to force them to abandon their embrace of the resistance.

We reject the so-called ceasefire proposal; the resistance is shaking the strongest military in the region.

Comrade Hani Thawabteh, member of the Central Committee of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said that the so-called ceasefire proposal is a new attempt to chain the Palestinian resistance, and that the response of the resistance to this initiative will come through targeting Zionist settlements and sites.

The Arab regimes and “international community” are co-conspirators in the Zionist aggression on Gaza, said Thawabteh. Thawabteh noted that the so-called ceasefire initiative excludes the needs of the Palestinian people, and guarantees no “calm” from the ongoing attacks by settlers in the West Bank and Jerusalem and the ongoing Zionist attacks of all forms against our people everywhere.

In an interview with Al-Quds TV, Thawabteh said that the Palestinian resistance was able to record real advances in their response to the Zionist assault on Gaza, forming a dilemma for the Zionist enemy which seeks to grasp at an initiative for “calm.” The occupation state launched a war against civilians in full view of the people of the world, said Thawabteh, and meanwhile the resistance proved its readiness through tactics presented by the resistance in the field, and despite its modest resources, it has shaken the strongest military arsenal in the Middle East.

Responding to the threats of occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to continue and escalate their assault in the event of non-compliance with the so-called ceasefire, Thawabteh said that “the Palestinian people have the will and determination to continue their struggle until the last drop of blood. Zionist threats have been continuous since the first Zionist assault on Gaza.” He warned that any ground invasion and war will become a cemetery for the soldiers of the occupation, and that the enemy understands that such a ground invasion will be very costly.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in Gaza issued a statement on July 10,describing the heinous crimes committed by the Zionist occupation forces in the Gaza Strip is a war of overall aggression which exceeds all limits of logic and humanity. It called for the resistance factions to escalate strikes in each area, including rockets and missiles, to compel the occupying entity to pay a price for its aggression.

The occupation forces are escalating their attacks on Gaza, including bombing and demolishing family homes inhabited by children, women and elders, targeting journalists, the latest of which was the assassination of journalist Hamdi Shehab yesterday, targeting medical personnel and ambulances, health centers and hospitals. All of this reflects the state of bankruptcy which the criminal enemy has reached, its confusion and inability to confront the resistance.

The Front denounced the extreme official Arab silence and international indifference in the face of the destruction in the Gaza Strip, asking if the bodies of women, children and elders pulled from under the rubble of destroyed homes are not sufficient to spark the conscience of international humanitarian agencies and the world, and promising that their Palestinian blood will not have been shed in vain.

The Front dismissed the emergency hearing of the Security Council called by the Arab Group, noting that it comes far too late, after over 80 martyrs and thousands of wounded, the destruction of homes and infrastructure, urging real international action to hold the occupation state accountable for its crimes.

The Front also renewed its call for the necessity of the leadership in power in the PLO to join the International Criminal Court and seek to bring the criminal enemy to trial for its crimes committed against the Palestinian people. Continued postponement is a betrayal of the blood of the martyrs.

The Front also reaffirmed the unity of our people in all locations against the horrific Zionist attack, calling on our people in the West Bank to take to the streets and escalate confrontation against the occupation army and settlers, and for the military wings of the armed resistance there to move to strike the occupation everywhere. Further, it called upon all members of Palestinian security agencies to reject the constraints and obligations of Oslo and instead join the Palestinian people to confront the occupier and protect the people.

Comrade Leila Khaled, member of the Political Bureau of the PFLP, spoke at the march on December 6, 2012, marking the 45th anniversary of the Front. She saluted the martyrs of the Palestinian revolution of Gaza and the martyrs of the Front, including Abu Ali Mustafa, the founder Dr. George Habash, Wadih Haddad, and greeted the prisoners led by Comrade Ahmad Sa’adat, General Secretary of the Front.

Khaled is visiting Gaza in order to participate in the 45th anniversary celebrations, saluting the martyrs of Palestine and the people of Gaza for their legendary steadfastness in the recent eight-day aggression. She said that the resistance proved during the aggression that it is robust on the ground, with popular support, and that despite the blockade of land, sea and air, the resistance proved that the will of our people and our fighters is stronger than all of the weaponry manufactured by imperialism and its customers in the world. She saluted Ahmad Sa’adat in the occupation prisons, and said that the resistance would not rest until he was freed from behind the prison bars. She also commended the unity of the resistance on the battlefield during the aggression and noted that the achievements of the resistance buoyed the spirit of Palestinians in all refugee camps, inside the homeland, and in diaspora, seeking their imminent return to their land. She emphasized that the Palestinian people must pressure the leadership to build unity and a resistance economy, as the resistance economy is a key factor to support steadfastness in the Palestinian street. Khaled noted that this resistance economy is a key factor for the liberation of Palestine, along with internal democracy and national unity, saying that those who have resisted siege also want to live freely and with dignity, calling for a clear policy to struggle against poverty.

She noted that the recent vote at the United Nations is a diplomatic achievement, but that it comes from an institution that bears responsibility for the wrongs visited upon the Palestinian people since 1947, and that despite UN votes, there is no Palestinian state, Zionist aggression continues and settlement building is escalating. She demanded that Arab countries re-formulate their relations in order to support the higher interests of the Palestinian people, which is not merely for Arab foreign ministers to visit Gaza and take photos with our people and the rubble of buildings. She added that the Palestinian people call upon all Arab countries to sever all relations with the Zionist enemy, abolish political agreements and not merely summon ambassadors of the occupation state. It must be isolated regionally and internationally. She praised the international movements who acted to defend the Palestinian people and break the siege on Gaza, greeting those who sacrificed for the Palestinian cause.

Unity and steadfastness: Over 70,000 rally in Gaza for PFLP 42nd anniversary

Over 70,000 cadres, members and supporters of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and the people of the Gaza Strip, converged on Palestine Stadium for the 42nd anniversary rally of the PFLP on December 12, 2009, spilling into the surrounding streets and carrying Palestinian flags, PFLP banners and posters of the Front's martyrs and leaders.

From the early morning hours, crowds of young and old, men, women and children traveled from the various provinces of the Strip and all camps and villages to Gaza City to the rally, answering the call of the Front to attend under the slogan of “Unity, Steadfastness and Resistance – Towards Victory!”

Comrade Dr. Rabah Muhanna, member of the Political Bureau of the PFLP and leader of its branch in Gaza, called for maintenance and escalation of resistance in general and armed struggle in particular against the Zionist enemy, calling for a nationally coordinated resistance framework serving the struggle to regain our rights.

Comrade Muhanna emphasized that the path of negotiations, from Oslo to Annapolis, has clearly reached a dead end, and there must be a declaration by all Palestinian forces of the final death of the path of so-called “negotiations” and the immediate end of the so-called “transitional period,” including a complete end of all security coordination with the occupier.

He expressed an urgent call for national unity, saying that it is a necessity for victory and that all political detainees in the West Bank and Gaza must be freed, and unity established on the basis of Palestinian national cause and the Palestinian national interest, responding to the sacrifices of thousands of martyrs, wounded and prisoners: ensuring an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, self-determination, and return.

Comrade Muhanna saluted the Palestinian people in occupied Palestine '48, in the West Bank, throughout Gaza, in the camps, and throughout the world in diaspora and exile, expressing the Front's complete determination to fight for the achievement of full victory over the criminal, fascist, occupation regime.

He outlined the Front's historical experience in confronting Zionism, as an extension of the struggle of the Arab Nationalist Movement. He said that the Front will continue along the path of its history in the revolutionary struggle to achieve victory and the utter defeat of the criminal Zionist enemy and the entire camp behind it that provides it with its power and aggression and weakens our people and prevents their progress, the imperialist camp and its reactionary arms and components, under the savage leadership of U.S. imperialism.

Comrade Muhanna closed his speech with a call for national unity, invoking the colors of the Palestinian flag and the banners of the Palestinian factions: green for Hamas, white for Fateh, black for Islamic Jihad and red for the PFLP, calling for all of our people to be united together under the complete national flag of Palestine.

Almazah Sammouni, who lost her family in the December 2008-January 2009 aggression on Gaza, spoke, saying “I came here today not to cry or to mourn for my family,” the Sammouni family, “who suffered under the fires and missiles of the occupation like thousands of martyrs of our people, but I come to express my pride for their sacrifices and commitment.” She called upon all Palestinian forces, particularly Fateh and Hamas, to unite under the banner of the blood of the martyrs and the promise of a better future for our people and children, and to fight to prosecute the occupation and its leaders in international courts for their crimes against our Palestinian people.

Comrade Amna Rimawi, the wife of imprisoned Comrade Majdi Rimawi and head of the village council of Beit Rima, one of the heroes of the legendary October 17 operation that struck Zionist extremist tourism minister Rehavam Ze'evi, spoke at the rally, expressing her greetings on behalf of the families of the prisoners, and calling upon the captors of occupation soldier Gilad Shalit and asking them to uphold the standards they have set for the prisoner exchange, because the families and the prisoners know the only means for their release comes through the resistance.

Mohammad Khalidi, an unemployed Palestinian worker, spoke wearing his work uniform, denouncing poverty and unemployment caused by siege and occupation. He said that “We are are to affirm our steadfastness as workers in the face of the Zionist war machine, the unjust siege, and deadly unemployment.”

The rally, chaired by Comrade Hani Al-Thawabteh, member of the Central Committee of Gaza Branch, and Comrade Shireen Abu-Oun, also included poetry, artistic presentations, and dozens of congratulatory messages from the PFLP leadership abroad, Hilda Habash, the wife of the founder, Dr. George Habash, and the General Secretary of the Front, imprisoned Comrade Leader Ahmad Sa'adat, and Abla Sa'adat and Sumoud Sa'adat, his wife and daughter.
